Finished painting around the new homemade clutch pedal mount and remembered to put the steering arm back on.

And fitted his rear bumper for the first time, all ready for a test drive tomorrow - as long as it's not raining ;)

I took a grinder and removed a few mm
That stopped the studs hitting the end plates
But it was still a hard bumpy ride
So the spax ones are a great improvement
I followed the directions on creative-engineering.com and ordered the size they recommended.
    All good now.
Well still need to stop the back end banging....
What if I removed the bump stops all together? As I only have 1 & 1/2 anyway??

Yes got full wet weather hood. Needed it on the last trip we did to Holland - rained solidly. It leaks of course.

On my '68 I found 2/3* of the top blob was required to stop the driveshafts hitting the chassis. With only that much left, they don't compress progressively like a whole one, it's a hard stop.
    * It was lightweight tintop, lightweight interior, never packed with much gear and I never had anyone ride in the back so exactly how much you'd need to leave might vary.

I may have to look at adjustable spring plates.

If I tilt the wheel at 45 degrees and wobble side to side I slides past the top of the wheel arch making a rubery sound

  15. After twelve months of inactivity I decided to do the cv boots and get the van back up and running. After chasing my balls around the floor and getting very greasy they are all done replaced. Need to get a triple square bit to tighten them properly before using it. Let’s see if they last longer than the last set at less than three years.

finally sorted my sticking accelerator cable! Turned out that one carb butterfly was entirely closed at idle. I found that when I tried to open the throttle there was a significant bind to overcome - must have been made worse by expansion with hot engine standing for 10 mins before restart. Was totally free moving after moving away from this position

anyway did the best I could without synchrometer, by closing throttle stops until they just grabbed a pice of paper. Then opened throttle screw on each, same amount of quarter turned until idle was good.

Also ensured was 0.8mm play in link bar ends as specified by EMPI  Adjusted linkage until had no bias on throttle

result - now a strong idle, pulls like a train from low revs and the linkage doesn’t bind anymore

good enough for now, but full tune with mixtures, synchrometer to follow…
