  1. Mechanical refresh is coming together and almost ready for installation of my rebuilt engine; new rear brakes, lines, cv boots. Removal decades of road crud. Nice to be able to see under there and not get covered with grease.

  2. Not done yet, but I do plan to cut out the area under the sink as Devon did, that should keep the ventilation okay, it's also still got the gas dropouts/ flue vent hole, which should help too. Then maybe a half depth tray for tea towels or something like that.

Totally agree about the fellows grill, I looked at new options including fitting a oven / hob unit but thought the original just suits it, though I'll need to get it serviced before I use it.

    Looked at it.
Looked at the mud flaps sitting on the freezer in the garage.
    Looked at it again.
    Made a cup of tea.

  5. That’s the spirit! Have you tried idly poking them with a screwdriver? That’s Phase 2. More tea required after, of course.

Followed by picking them up, reading the small print on the label and putting them down again. Then more tea

That compression ratio isn't going to work itself out...

First piston (finally!) in place so I can check the deck height to the top of the barrel (no shims for now)

I used my dial gauge to make sure it's at TDC, then put a straight edge across the barrel and measured the gap with feeler gauge - 0.45mm

  8. Fitted the engine inspection hatch seal - at the third time of asking. I’m guessing this is the right way around as it fits best - best, not well. Bike tyre lever has proven invaluable again. 43EF1779-9EF2-4632-B6E0-37AF22ECF4C7.jpeg Quarter light seals are a different level of pain though…

  10. Ha! Really? I had it in that way and it just didn’t sit right at all. Oh for instructions. It doesn’t rattle (yet) so I’ll probably leave it for now - least of my worries. In other news, quarter light seals actually behave well when treated properly. There was a bad tool blaming the workmen… again :) B76F7ED7-6955-4406-B091-1BCFC51DA521.jpeg

Move them to the bench, turn them over a few times to check them, put them down neat and tidy........then make a cup of tea.

    You are all so productive.
I slid the slider, opened a cupboard and removed some tea bags from the tea bag stash coz Mrs Monkey had run out on board...

  15. Started wiring the worry gauges. They now light up even if they don’t do anything!
Second thoughts, the voltmeter works but the (battery) clock’s stopped and I’ll need to somehow cobble in a red led to make the clock light up as well. [IMG]

Edit: They light up red but the flash doesn’t allow it to show.

I’ll also need to find a temperature sender, hence my interest in the bbq sender post.

Because you bought the meters without senders you asked for it...
    Some electronics will be needed.

You need to work out which sender resistance corresponds to which temperature on the gauge then try and find the matched sender.

Same for the oil pressure sender and its gauge.

Either using a variable resistor and a 12 volt supply. Twiddle resistor until gauge reads "X" write down resistance.

    Or Googleing hard.

You may find it in fact matches a BBQ sensor. ...

Or chuck them away and buy matched gauges and senders.
