@snotty. At the heart of it you're right. When I had the stock distributor and was forced to turn it such that max advance was 28 degrees it idled at about 4 1/2 degrees. The other effect was the whole curve got advanced. Does that make sense? It went pretty well at that point. Then I bent the max stops so I could make it idle at 8 degs which retarded the whole curve and I don't think it's ever been the same since. Hence the 123 but I've never got as far as setting it up properly. If I'd just let it tickover slowly or put up with turning up the speed with the carb stops which made the idle tuning difficult...

...arm through the paint tin lid, chopstick prodding, compressed air spraying...teased it through a gap (i’ll fill ) between wheel arch and dangly mudguard-esque bit (yes, i’m not technically knowledgable).

Am I rich now? Is this a priceless find?

Possibly not a good sign it is singed!

I finally got motivated into doing a bit on Gusbus..been cleaning the gutters, rubbed down some rust spots in the nooks and crannies and got the right hand side painted with rustoleum.

Whilst wobbling around on mi ladder I cleaned the r/h side of the roof down, t cut it and waxed it.

Ferocious Dog in mi iPhone, radiator on, motivation is coming back :D

That'll be off the rear arch repair we were talking about the other day and someone didn't bother to remove the transit primer and paint it

  9. Bit cold in the garage but I still managed to prime the front cut....first coat was carp but it dried so I cut flat it back turned up the pressure thinned the paint more and better second time around....no pics...

  10. Seems none of the panels have had the transit primer (if that is the black coating?) removed.
It’s pretty tough stuff though! Hoping rustoleum sticks to it or I face another 3 days in the vents!

I thoroughly washed the outside of my bus on Sunday then had to gently blowtorch the sliding door lock to unfreeze it on Monday morning.
I wanted to do something to celebrate Not Doing Fencing Repairs for the first time since Christmas, so I washed it.
Back to chopping up bits of metal and welding them in the holes around the deformation panel soon.

It does depend on whose primer it is. Some vendors actually provide a reasonable quality primer.

I did discover on some panels, that what happened was that water got under the primer, froze, lifted the primer until all the paint and filler was floating away. The metal underneath was bizarrely shiny still, but with water dripping out as you picked off the stack of paint with a finger nail.
Almost like but more pleasant than the acetic acid bubbles of fibreglass osmosis damage.

  13. I've applied Rusto over transit paint (after checking it for sticking-ness), and it's been fine to date.

This transit primer seems pretty good, as @mikedjames says. Took some off, with difficulty, and shinny underneath.

I’ll leave it! I’ve done more than I imagined already.

That KlokkerKrap sticker must be from another panel.

Took twice as long and was half as therapeutic as expected!

Can’t complain about the result though...

Finally got underneath and sorted the throttle cable so it's as VW intended...now got a proper stud on the gearbox end...she's a right hand drive automatic and the correct cable is too long...quess what, the lhd one looks like it will be the correct length.

    Nothing ever gets easier!

Rustoleum seems to go on perfectly with only the tip of a particular brush - anyone know the recommended brush type? Searched and not found.
