Just ordered a new steering idler pin kit and adjustable track rods so time permitting hopefully get these fitted before she gets trailered of to Wales ready for her trip to Ireland later.

Had a glance in the engine cupboard as it smelled a bit petrolly the other day.
It's all got a bit mucky since I last opened the lid a few years ago.
The most interesting thing was the cables for the solar are going mouldy!

@PanZer, it's looking like there has been a lot of progress since I last saw it. Not too far to go!

  11. Glad it looks that way. Still the front underneath to tackle but then the fun of putting it back together.

Took the carburettor out on Thursday to confirm the jetting was correct. En route noticed a small brass piece I had soldered up to block off the power valve had vanished. So I filled the hole with epoxy. I reckon because it was loose it was making the power valve come on too rapidly, making it run richer..

I started the engine and idled it until it warmed up, revved it a few times, set the idle mixture and shut down.

Friday set off for the chip shop and a clattering started about 100 metres down the road. So I drove it back to the parking space, slowly and shut down.

Cranking produced no strange sounds, only if clattering from the right hand heads if it was running.

Saturday lunchtime about 1200 I started searching .. nothing in the intake on the head. Borescope down the spark plug hole showed some glitter in No2 cylinder.

Dropped the engine, pulled the head and found the 4mm hollow brass air restrictor valve from the power valve. 20241026_152612.jpg

So I scraped it off, peened over the dents in the head, most of the damage was chipped carbon.

Pulled the cylinder off the piston because it had worn the carbon off the top of the bore near the resting place of the metal.

Cleaned off the brass filings and then lightly filed the edge of the piston where it had been roughened and widened by crushing the brass.
Put it back into the cylinder and started putting it all back together.
Got the engine back in in 5 mins, making sure I had it at exactly the correct down angle. I am going to make some adjustable wooden rails to sit the engine on so the angle on the jack is perfect- to be set when the engine is in and the jack is just touching at the front.

Gave up when I got hungry at 1930, also when I put down a torch that was turned off then had to find another torch to find the torch..
Tomorrow - go to Bursledon Brickworks museum for final steam up session of the year.

Then finish off exhaust fitting, tinware, ignition, fuel, heater box hoses and controls.

I believe that it was a new case though..

New case, even newer pistons and cylinders. The brass piece must have managed to sit on the throttle plate while the carburettor was out..

The real reason was trying to get a handle on why with a 47 idle jet main 125 i the first barrel of the carb it was still very rich just off idle.
