i see you dont want that tailgate hinge to whack you in the chops  my mate lost a few teeth to one of those babies :-X

  3. So todays installment is a small one... but that roof skin took me most of the day to get back in

    tacking it in
    [IMG]

you can see one of the cuts I had to do to get the rot out!!

    getting there
    [IMG]

    linnishing it off
    [IMG]

done... will need a slight skim of filler to get it bob on, but not bad!!

did a couple of other bits of welding, then made a start on the o/s A pillar... more tomorrow

  4. So after going to work with the old man this morning to be his plumber, I got back on with the van this afternoon!!

    Started unpicking the A Pillar
    [IMG]

bottom of the pillar was rotten, as per usual!! :)

New pillar... about to get the chopping treatment!! ;)

A little while later got it to this stage
    [IMG]

    New metal going in...

A pillar skin clamped on to check fit...

Got to get some more weld thru primer, otherwise that would've been welded on!!

  5. So, had a few more hours on the beasty this afternoon... been working with the old man again

Got some more weld thru, and primed up the inside of the A pillar
    [IMG]

    welded in
    [IMG]

    new fillet plate in
    [IMG]

    bit of primer on
    [IMG]

then I chopped out the infill as the one that was in there would've been an issue come MOT time
    [IMG]

That's it for today... might get the front panel on tomorrow

  6. So a bit more done... Although I've had a bit of a set back that's annoyed me a little...

Chopped the bottom out of the N/S A pillar
    [IMG]

    front all filled in
    [IMG]

A hole in the screen pillar that I opened out
    [IMG]

    all filled in
    [IMG]

Trial fit of the front panel shows a slight issue...

Yep... inner front valance is not in the right position... about 5mm too far forward on the O/S
    [IMG]

So, I now have to cut out the infill, the bridge between the inner valance and the A pillars, and where the valance goes onto the chassis

Gonna see if I can hire/borrow a plasma cutter come monday... blinkin bank holidays

Lovely pillar ,look a art form in itself... 8)

I would have to touch it when ever I walked by.... ;D

    Lovely welding btw.. ;D

  8. I really want a plasma cutter ,it would of made life so much easier working on the van .
I'm sure you will sort that little problem out ,keep up the good work :)

  9. Looking good pal :)

  13. Good work there :) i've got some roof repairs coming up this week. Not my favourite job i must admit. Re. Weld through primer, i used to use it but stopped bothering when i realised you can rub it off with your fingers. Not sure if it's me doing something wrong or the brand i was using maybe but i had no luck with it.

  16. Still would be handy to have around , hmmmm how much is in my savings

  17. So as I couldn't get on with the welding I decided that I'd start prepping the pop top for the roof cap

First I thought I'd tease out the sky light aperture
    [IMG]

Black and white bathroom mastic.... and poly filler

Next I fired up the hot air gun, as the roof had been vinyl coated, and then at some point gloss painted
    evostik city

must've been leaking like a bottomless bucket
    [IMG]

    all stripped
    [IMG]

outer edge off, and the inner sheet is ready to lift off!!

    more tomorrow
