Another shot of the old damage..

Decided to knock the dent out from the inside as the filler was well over 5mm thick... dunno why as the dent isn't that bad

    bottom all tacked in
    [IMG]

plenty of tacks to keep it straight

Another shot of that filler close up
    [IMG]

half hour with the razor blade scraper got a lot of the wood gloss off!!

bit of mint green in the mix
    [IMG]

more tomorrow once I've had a good nights sleep... dog had me up at half 3 this morning

  3. Why people put that much filler in rather than at least attempt to planish out the dent is beyond me

Looks nice and neat, lots of progress made

Sills seemed to fit well whose were you using? Do you attempt to put some primer inside or leave them in e-coat and waxoyl afterwards?

    Cheers,

    MM

  4. They're JK ones... pretty much the same from whoever you get them from...

as for paint, I zinc prime bare metal parts, and stuff that is e-coated I clean it back where I need to weld, and zinc prime that too... hence all the silver paint ;)

But once I've finished welding I will be seam sealing, epoxy chassis paint on the underside, cavity wax in the cavities, etch, and epoxy priming the outside of the van!!

  5. Lovely looking work!

Have you got any tips to stop/reduce heat distortion on long panel welds?

  6.
  7. Thanks, i've got a top (bulge) of front panel to do on mine soon, and though the run isn't that long as i'm gonna cut in line with the airbox and indicators i'll still take a my time

  8. Well keep an eye on this, as I'm doing some mods to the front panel that I'm fitting ;)

  9. Dont worry its bookmarked ,

Looking forward to the updates, keep the panel porn coming :)

  10.
  11. just read this from the start and im  at how bad that was to start with but you've done an amazing job of bringing this back to life.

any tips on removing the section of tophat above the left front outrigger?? mines rotten where it meets the sills and outrigger

  12.
  13. A couple more jobs ticked off the list... had to go out today, so not too much done!!

C pillar bottom... not the best looking, but nice and strong!!

looks a little better dressed back and painted
    [IMG]

    nice repair
    [IMG]

A bit better... well no rot anyway
    [IMG]

battery tray going back in after I cleaned the mastic and filler from it (yes, mastic, and filler  )

brushed on some rust preventer, as it was a bit pitted... will be getting some cavity wax in here soon!!

    bit more rust preventer
    [IMG]

    getting there!!

Just clamped in the rear arch, as I was waiting on the bonder to go off on the old bond points!!

    Patch
    [IMG]

    on a patch
    [IMG]

    on rot
    [IMG]

    closing off the inner arch
    [IMG]

bit more tomorrow.. got one of the fleet to fix in the morning!!

  15. Didn't get much done today as I was on one of the fleet... did get the rear arch welded in though... only grabbed of a pic of it being tacked in tho

  16. not too much done... had other car issues, and a couple of other things to attend to!!

but still nibbling away at it!!

rear chassis trimmed out for repair
    [IMG]

engine lid hinge screws had to be drilled out as they'd been well chewed up at some point...

engine lid stay rollers had seized up, so I whipped those off...

  17. Here's todays installment... wind made life a little interesting... not not me

chassis rail end filled in, and new captive nut and spreader plate
    [IMG]

    all boxed in
    [IMG]

started tying in the back edge of the rear arch, and the new return for the back corner!!

trimmed up the new rear corner... man, these corners are getting worse

    see what I mean :(
    [IMG]

    getting it stitched in
    [IMG]

    all in and linnished back
    [IMG]

next I cleaned up the bottom of the back side window...

not too bad, but I'll repair it the same as the other side!!

That's all for today, wind started getting up and rocking the van in the shed

  18. todays installment

marked out the area to cut
    [IMG]

    All cut out
    [IMG]

    new bit going in
    [IMG]

    all in and linnished back
    [IMG]

popped some rust treatment on the pitted bits
    [IMG]

    new cover clip going in
    [IMG]

    Pulled the rear hatch off
    [IMG]

    to get to the crusty
    [IMG]

Shall be replacing the engine lid hinge panel when it turns up, as the old one has got a lot of creeping rust... That and the seal edge is completely rotten!!

captive nut in the chassis rail on both sides was shot (plus both had a sheared bolt seized in)

Then for some reason I forgot to take some pictures of it done

  19. So I was under the van the other day, and I spotted that where the clutch cable conduit passes under the rear torsion housing, that someone has had a mishap with a jack, and they'd buggered the tube, and crimped the cable into it too...

Had to then machine the centre out if a bit of round, as I didn't have any tube...

    and welded it in
    [IMG]

    New hinge panel
    [IMG]
Big  on the fit and quality!!

why the old one is coming out...

    trimmed it out
    [IMG]

dropped in the new panel after a little trimmage!!

    Tacked in
    [IMG]

    and welded...

Then I got the wire wheel on the grinder to clean above the rear hatch...

Hmm... that doesn't look too good!!

    That's because it's not :(
    [IMG]

    Crap

best see if I can get a roof cut in!!

  20. so after a couple of days off, I got cracking on it again today...

finished off the rear hinge panel..

Then I thought that I'd best get started on this bit

Teased it open with the grinder and the air-saw..

    yep, definitely crusty
    [IMG]

chopped that out to find this...

chopped some more out... even tho the rest looks crusty, it's very solid...

dropped in a bit of steel
    [IMG]

    Then some more steel
    [IMG]

Then I got the rough shape
    [IMG]

    All welded in
    [IMG]

Just got the outer skin to sort, and that can go back in...

    more tomorrow
