Leads debate..... Just check em. Happy to be wrong and move onto the next thing. We don't know what's been done exactly following the breakdown so need to check they haven't been moved even if they were right because as said above the original cap has been put back on.
i can do a skype! No problem,i had exactly the same motor,my old carbs and all that stuff is sitting on a bench inmy garage.Perfect to explain!
Is the leads are good im guessing it might be a vacumm leak some place.Might be that the dizzyis a little loose and its moved.
Get Dicky on the skype! Maybe you could give him a lesson on how to adjust valve clearances? Lol! Might be funny but its a need to know job.
How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive by John Muir is brilliant too IMO - especially if you need to get to grips with the basics of how a car works... Haynes etc probably better for detailed (and accurate) info but the Muir book is much easier to digest for a beginner. I'm no mechanic - but have been fiddling about with old cars for years, and it's filled in loads of gaps in my knowledge, whereas Haynes manuals have often confused me. Oh and everyone should read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, too.
We have skype on our iPad. Depends what Darren has. Sorry I can't help myself but I'll be watching this thread with interest.....
Hi Darren, if dabbling on cars in general is a bit new to you, let alone buses then this site may give you a bit of a helping hand just to explain simple principals of how any system you may work on is meant to operate.. It may help explain some of the terms used in the posts above... http://www.howacarworks.com/
Looks like me n Clive are on a mission. Settings ponts is my nemesis as I've had electronic ignition for so long.
This is the page that covers most terms in the thread around the dizzy http://www.howacarworks.com/ignition-system/inspecting-the-ignition-system
First thing i did was order electronic ignition! Actually ordered it on the ferry to denmark when i fetched the bus! Damn points! Damn rocker covers! Damn pushrod tube seals! Damn valve seat migration! Damn broken rocker! Still love it though...
