  9. Cracking thread this! Quick question... What symptoms would a missing foam seal around motor cause? I ask because mine is disintegrating.

  10. He got it started but he can hear a hissing sound, probaby from one of the vacuum lines split.
Success! Showed him on skype the bentley manual and the john muir one.

  12. Cracking ormissing seal will cause the motor to overheat,it seperates the hot side from the cold side of the motor, the cold side being the bit you see when you open the engine room noisy cupboard door.

  13. Hi, my mechanic friend screwed this thing (which I circled in the photo) saying he was making it idle easier. Could this be causing a problem too?

No symptoms as such. It'll just get hot.

All hes done is played with the linkage then.
Not how it should be done.

  18. Beat him off with a stick! Dont screw that, that will make your carbs not synchronised.
If he wants to adjust the idle its on top of the carb.screw the thing the mechanic screwd back to where it was.
As soon as you fix the hissing sound and stop all vacuum leaks then you can adjust the idle.

  19. Barely because of the vacuum leaks, hopefully he will get them sealed.
If i was there i would be running and running well.
