And the other day while helping a mate I got another steering wheel which I believe is of a mini but I can get another boss to fit it . Needs a good sand down and clear coat .the wheel looks abit like the one in the other pic sorry for steeling the pic whoever owns it maybe dog and dubs ?

Fit drag link to steering idler arm on axle, but not box.
full lock one way, then the other, counting the turns (2 3/4?)
Half turns back so it's centred.
Make sure road wheels are pointing straight ahead.
Ajust the drag link until it's right for the drop arm on the steering box.

Why? The steering box is made to be tighter in the middle. In the old days they weren't. The wear mostly occurs in the middle so when adjusted out, people were finding the steering got stuck when they turned a corner. Also you only notice the wear when you try and drive straight, round corners, working against centrifugal force or something it'll feel tight however loose it is (within reason).

Then take the steering wheel off and put that on straight as well. Then if you're like me go for a drive and find it's still not right and take the steering wheel off again to put it straight.

  16. Cheers zed very helpful I'll do that once I get back out there I'll lift it up and make sore the wheels are strait and go from there , won't be able to test drive it as its not running :(

When you do get on the road the steering wheel will not be straight however careful you are. The only real way to get dead straight ahead wheels is to drive it and note how the steering wheel's orientated, then park like that and off with the steering wheel. I never get it right first time, but at least by setting it straight after doing the draglink, you will have a point of reference to see how far out you were when you did the drag link. If you find when you finally do get to drive it the wheel is 1/4 turn out for instance, you might want to use the new wheels ahead setting and redo the draglink. I hope that made sense lol.

  18. I think I got all that lol need to take the steering wheel off any way as I'm changing it to the wooden one cheers zed it's a great help

  19. Today nothing is getting done the weather is crap and Ive already done done gardening :( my back is killing may sand that steering wheel later on thow
