Gearbox selection issues

  1. Hmmmm I think I have a way to go!!
That’s my next job after putting the iPad on charge, got the box soaking in degreaser at the moment.

  2. Now here’s a question for you, should the selector shaft have two dimples in it? They are 180 degrees apart but if not it’s got my alarm bells ringing now as to what else I might find........hopefully it’s just going to be 1st gear :).

  3. My spare box has two, top and bottom. If they’re in the same position, not going to have any effect as the coupler would end up in the same position whichever one was used.

I actually used a ball peen hammer for its intended use when I did thsi , peening out small dents instead of filing the edges off them , you tap the edges with a hammer and the metal flows back.

In @snotty s inside picture, the ball I referred to is over the end of the hockey stick over on the right at the top.

  6. And the gasket set was a better to find to put the end back on an 091 for me

But you can cut a set to make them ..

  7. What might be wrong (if it is the selector):

    1. Nothing
    2. Pivot ball thing worn into a misshapen pea
    3. Vertical bracket holding the up and down shaft loose or cracked
    4. Actual selector rods (x3), but unlikely.

  8. Look around that circular bit of the nosecone casting. Has a circular crack started?

  9. Ah that’s ok then, I shall switch the alarm bells off. Cleaned off all the crap, now getting excited as I’m about to remove the nose cone!!

  12. Well chaps here is what I’ve found!! Hopefully this is the culprit of all my troubles, I cannot see anything else that looks problematic but I’ve taken some more pictures and will post them so you can take a look and advise me where necessary.

  14. Looks like it has seen better days. They do metal replacements for them. Hard to think how the plastic/nylon ones put up with forces on them.

  15. I will be ordering one later tonight along with a nose cone seal and a new gasket as the old ones well and truly jiggered...time now I think for a cold brewski from the fridge of plenty.:)

  16. Best just to change the seal in the nosecone, if the bushes are in good shape. Go easy getting it out, as it’s easy to crack the nosecone “snout”.

  18. PS If you’re really keen, you could order a couple of driveshaft seals and an input shaft seal.
