Strange how 'non American' products seem to get more bad press on Samba.. or is it me? . Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
I will double check but prior to taking the empi shifter out and fitting new bushes the gear change was nigh on perfect I just can’t figure out what I am missing? (Apart from 1st gear!!)
Was the shift coupler exactly the same?. I think the cage on the red urethane one we used had the bolt onto the rod closer to the bolt through the urethane.. if you see what I mean.. didn't cause a problem when putting the EMPI shifter back on though... Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
I didn’t change the coupler, but I’ve checked it, as this was only done last summer and didn’t affect the gear selection in any way prior to my moment of madness in removing the empi shifter!!
Quick update and check list; Checked and adjusted clutch cable using Zedders pedal reference. Checked for rearward movement in gearbox coupler as suggested by Mike, non found. Thrown empi shifter over garden wall and fitted original shifter back, screws in middle of base plate as a starting point as recommended by snotty. Checked shifter rods for signs of second dimple set further back, non found Matty. Off in house to make a triple espresso as I feel the need for caffeine before I start again.
it won’t have a dimple. With it in neutral is the cup the gearstick goes into in the middle of the hole in the floor
Hmmmm......So now having carried out all the above checks the bus starts to creep along in first gear but the gears in the gearbox are still not meshing correctly and I’ve run out of slot length in the base plate to move it back any further.
Oh yes...1st almost engages, Van creeps along but you can hear the gearbox cogs are still not completely meshed
As this has all but defeated me just for one last throw of the dice do you think it is worth me elongating the holes in the base plate of the original shifter to see if I can get more “shove” on it? My only concern is that I have dropped a gonad somewhere else along the line but if I have I just can’t see it!!
Have you checked ur rod pins are in the slots ? And rear coupling in right in the rod slot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That’s what I keep thinking but I just don’t know where, I’ve checked and double checked all that I have done apart from taking the clutch out again and I can’t come up with anything
You must have. If you'd taken all the original bits off and simply re-fitted them; you'd expect them to fit / work. You wouldn't need to notch anything, as it had worked previously... The fact the original no longer works means something is wrong, somewhere!
If you said approximately where you were, maybe you're just round the corner from someone here. Fresh pair of eyes and all that.
