Well I’ve shoved it as far back as the slots will allow........and guess what?........still no 1st gear, so I’m swapping empi out for original to see if I still have the same problem?Watch this space

Well that didn’t work like I had hoped, with the old shifter in I can still select all the gears apart from 1st, could there be another issue? All answers on a postcard please, to the usual address!! Oh and that was with the plate set all the way back.
Can you not elongate the slots a bit? As above, if 1st isn’t engaging, implies the box selector shaft isn’t being pushed in fully.
Nothing short of crank timed is acceptable to some of the sambanista. They'll knock anything that uses the distributor drive and they are right for a given value of right.
I find it very impersonal. I've found it useful when someone has post a link to a tekky bit though. Like that fuel sender thread Zedders pointed out the other day. Ace info if I'm going to start rewinding these things.
Are you actually running or driving the van as you test ?? Sometimes the synchros need movement to mesh . First can be a bit difficult to find on mine with the engine off but start the engine and it's far easier ... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Yes...and no. It's not like here, humour is rare. I like the depths they dive into the nitty gritty though. Better for reading than joining in, I use google to search it.
With the old shifter, stick it in 2nd and try and get the base of the shifter perfectly upright. Might be a good starting point.
