The only way to "check the level" is by filling it up until it comes out of the filler hole, from underneath the van.

  2. Amazing I need to pick up some more brake oil whilst I'm there I'll get some gear oil. Is there a trick to filling it, I watched a video of someone using a syringe.

Hopefully my reservoir bottle comes today so I can crack on

It's definitely not easy, you need something to squirt it in. Depends what you have around. You'll figure out a way. :)

  4. A small bottle of EP80 gear oil should have a pull-out squeezy tube. Need to be a gymnast to squirt it in.

Please don't oil your brakes ;)

  5. Brake reservoir successfully changed, which was a bugger getting tube from the cab off the old and on the new.

New issue whilst I'm at it not getting a spark.

I have recently changed, condenser, points, arm, cap, coil leads are still good.

When I put my multimeter across the coil I get nothing then when I ground the - I get 12v across it, maybe doing that has blown my new condenser. I am stumped

  6. Measure from the coil +ve to earth. Should get 12V with ignition on. Measuring across the coil doesn't really mean anything. You can't blow up a condenser.

  7. I am getting 12v from the positive side (15) if I ground it if that's the +ve side

  8. Ground...what? Don't short 15/+ve side to earth, or you could damage the wiring loom.

Ignition on, there should be 12V between 15 and the engine crankcase. Ignore the -ve side.

  9. Sorry that's what I ment If I put the red wire from the multimeter on the 15 or positive side of the ignition coil and the black multimeter wire to the fan housing which I guess is ground

  10. Sounds ok, although the fan housing's prob not a particularly good earth.

    Contact breakers set correctly?

  11. Not sure if it's correct but it definitely opens and closes, I was just looking at old posts I'm missing the spring in the shaft the distributor goes into would that make a difference?

  12. No.

Have you set the breaker gap correctly? Ignition timing set properly?

  13. Timing isn't correct, I have my light ready to set it, I know I am in the ball park because it has been running shortly, lead one pointing to about 5 o clock, problem is I've just switched from FI to carbs,

I'm going to pop to my local car parks shop and buy the feeler gauge and set the gap now

  14. The gap was way out I've now set it to .4

    Still no spark.

Is there anything else I can test

  15. Set the ignition timing properly. You can set it statically with a small light bulb. You don't need a timing light.

  16. Amazing I've just found the notch on the fan 4cm CW from the locating bolt. What degree should I set it to. I have a vacuum advance. Also thank you so much for your time

7.5 degs, to the left of the 0 / TDC mark, you'll see there's a mark/notch/blob at 7.5 on your scale to remind you.

    Can't be both. :)

  19. True it's been taking long and longer to start and after I fitted the reservoir I decided to try and get it running and it give up the ghost.

I'm tempted to get a new coil dizzy leads and plugs but worried this won't fix the issue

  20. Don't do that! It won't improve anything. Get your breakers set and ignition timing set.
