The engine is on the deck so no battery I have a jump wire from the + side to the coil but nothing to - side except the green wire from the condenser?
You're a points man - are those the right ones? Shouldn't the wire head off in the opposite direction?
This is where I get caught out I don’t know if they are on the highest point of the cam I don’t think the spade is earthing out
High point is the corner of the squarish bit the points are lifted by Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Take off the dizzy arm and turn the engine BY HAND . You`ll see the dizzy centre move and when it hits the heel of the points they should be open . Set them to ...... I forget now and the manual is in the van - anyone ??
You said you had it powered from another car with jump leads and the +ve one was on the starter terminal. Where is the -ve one.
Ok , ignition connected up and the points closed . flick the points open with a small piece of wood - they should spark ... Forget trying to sort out the starter until you have a spark !! (***don`t leave the ignition connected for more than 30 seconds*** )
Ok done that there is a spark at the points and I’m now getting a slight spark at number 1 plug but still won’t fire when I turn the engine a bit worried I can’t turn the engine by hand it’s not really hard to do with a ratchet
Just noticed you're earthing the jump lead onto the tinware - that ain't good . Get a better earth onto the crankcase, give it a good clean before. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
See photo that’s the position of the rotor with cylinder 1 at TDC so should the lead from 1 be on the bottom left or bottom right of the cap?
With 1 at tdc on the firing stroke note where the rotor is . Plug the ht lead on sparkplug number 1. Replace dizzy cap and plug the other end of the ht lead into the cap ABOVE WHERE THE ROTOR ARM IS POSITIONED . Repeat for the other 3 in firing order ... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
And clamp your negative closer to the starter, but I did have a problem getting enough juice through those clamps when I did it.. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
