  1. Those plug welds look great, Zed you the man. That side looks nice and straight, good job.

  2. What size holes are you punching for your plug welds? They look great.

  3. It's about a 5mm punch on my jogging tool, credit needs to go to Zed tho really, turn the amps up and be brave it worked for me ha ha

thats great advice zed, and some lovely welds there daisy

  5. Zed

  6. I totally agree, get the material hot quick and get the feed right and it flows together as long as ur welding to good clean metal, the cleaner the metal the cleaner the weld.

  7. My welder (a cheap second hand clarke 100E) has 4 power settings and i'd always assumed the lowest setting was best for bodywork thickness metal.
Turning it up to the second setting by mistake made the welds penetrate much better and not look like the mountains they used to.

  8. Reet then. managed a couple of afternoon and an entire full day today woohoo!!

Got my sill cleaned up and the end capped up.

Then cut the back corner off
    [IMG]

Found the battery tray was a little thin in places but decided to repair it cos most of it is good metal and wanna keep as much as poss.

So made a repair panel to replace said thin metal.

Cut out the rot and managed to keep the battery clamp in place, which was good.

Got it tacked in then welded her up and cleaned her up. Not perfect but don't think I've done to bad job considering in u'll never see it!!

    Looks better than it did!

So then started cutting the rot out of the pillar and base.

Replaced the rotten plate and started rebuilding the pillar.

    Think its come out OK.

Then have welded a new lip on the battery tray just needs dressing.
    [IMG][IMG]

So nearly ready to put the new back corner on which hopfully ill get done tomorrow, depending how easily I get
temped to go drink some booze :-

  9. I am doing these little rear pillar repairs too at the minute, good work. I had a go with higher power for the plug welds and they did work better for me too, some not perfect and I need to practice but better. Looks great you do get loads done. Thanks for the pics, useful reference.

  10. Tidy work on the battery tray dude

    Got my tray finished
    [IMG]

And got the front edge of the back corner on.

Then got the corner panel ready and rammed her in (literally!!)

Tacked her on then welder her up.

    From the inside
    [IMG]

So had a good morning really but now I here the pub calling me so of we go!!

  12. So started scraping the bottom of my van clean today...........the worst job I've ever done in my life!! :'(

    Rear arch
    [IMG]

This is how the floor was
    [IMG]

and this is how its looking once Ive scraped it and cleaned it with the aid of a heat gun ready for it to be wire brushed off.

The problem is the underseal is still soft and waxy so is just smearing around, is there no other way of getting it off or am i destined to loose a week of life doing this?!?

  13. You just have to keep scraping at it dude

  14. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

    Just a week?

  15. Wipe the remains off with a petrol soaked rag. Or something cheaper.

  16. Any longer than a week and someone may die!!

The heat gun does the job so I can wipe it clean and was gona go over it with some petrol before painting her just dreading doing all of her, she it quite rotun u know lol

  17. At least your doing it with the bus on its side dude
I did mine lying underneath on my back

  18.
  19. Below we have the sum total of 8 hours work!! its been a long day.

On the plus side she is solid underneath
    [IMG]
    [IMG][IMG]

I always see peoples undersides on here the are bare metal and think if only then I wouldn't have to do this! but keep telling myself its a good thing and that's why she is solid. My fingers are so very soar though :'(
