  1. Nice welding on the front beam adjusters. 8)

That rollover jig thing looks like its worth its weight in gold. Much better than lying underneath. :)

  2. great progress, keep up the good work

you'll be on the road in no time :D

  3. Oooo looks like Christmas has come early for Daisy lol

That's posh! How much did you pay for it? Assume it's second hand?

  5. Well u know the good old sayin, it's not what u know! Got it for £70! With a spare motor, well pleased with it nice and quiet and almost instant air.

  7. Nowthen gents and gentets, first chance i have had to get into the garage since Christmas but got a bit done.

First of all finished welding the front arch in then finished patching the tub up, just needs a bit of dressing.

Then had found what I thought was a small hole around the rear seat belt anchor point in the rear tub so tried to undo the nut and look what happened!!

So cleaned the hole up and plated it up (not in use anyway)

A little dressing and seam sealer and job done!

Then started on the rear window frame. looks so bad once i took the paint off.

Cut it out and tacked the new metal in place.

Want to finish this side off tomoz then crack on with the other.

Has any one tried one of those hand held sand blasting guns made by sealey? are they any good for cleaning seams up?

  8. Nice work on the panels, the beam looks fab keep up the good work

  9. I've tried those shot blasting guns,

Not bad, you need a good volume of air though and I found it didnt like course grit that much (perhapse it was a bit heavy for it?)

you will find that it soon runs out of grit and you will be topping it up very frequently

...........and the stuff goes every where >:D

  10. cheers, might get one for the price, just wanna go down my seems and around my guttering.

Finished welding my window frame and dressed it up

thought i was all done on that side and was half way through a celebratory can of Stella then realised I had to refit the track cover rail :p
    [IMG]

Pretty please really, other side to do now!!

  11. Tidy work

  12. Cheers guys for the comments, nice to know its looking OK.

started work on the back corner today, first of all took it back to bear metal. Theres nothing worst than when you thinks you've got a nice straight panel and then you find a 1/4" of filler!!!! god damn dodgy repairs! Well behind all the filler found that someone in the past had tried to do a repair not the best tho.

Thought that worst the worst bit then found this nasty
    [IMG]
Looks like someone has tried to fill the hole with weld

Oh well cut all that out and repaired the post.

Then as you can see the battery tray is not to bad so decided the repair it.

The it was time to prepare the repair panel and jog the edges.

Offered it up and tacked that bad boy in place!

So going to finish up welding tommorrow and should be job done on that corner.

So had a good scrape and dig around on the other side and its pretty much the same story as the drivers, sill, back arch (inner and outer) and rear corner as I changed the front arch last year.

Other than that she looks good, hoping to get the metal work done by and of Feb and have learned so much while doing the drivers side that might actually be possible.

  16. its always good when you can cross a big chunk off the list, like finishing one side

I did the same, complete one side then do the other and it was definatly quicker on the second side as I knew how everything should fit together (providing I did the first side right ;D)

keep up the good work :)

  17. Great progress at such a high standard of work too - must get me one of those body rolling jigs for the next project

  18. Thanks guys, seems to going together OK, just hope she rubs down well and still looks nice ans straight.

Got the sliding door sill and runner of today, Made a small mistake and have drilled out the spot welds for the step thinking they where for the middle sill. Ah well you live and learn and will just puddle weld the back in. Finding this cheered me up, will be drinking more of these in her soon i hope!

Actual runner and middle sill came out intact shockingly enough!

Just a couple of holes to patch up
    [IMG]

I replaced the front arch and B post last year so that's all done, Just waiting for my new sill to come in from and will hopefully have it on by end of the week.

  19. Your moving along at a good pace there dude keep up the good work

  20. Fantastic work matey, well done !

Brings back a lot of memories of last year and what i would have given for the tilting frame !

working on rear corners and engine compartment on mine now, looking forward to a great Spring/Summer.

Keep up the great work, it will all be worth it in the end, another 30 years of VW is safe and sound !
