A warning!!?? Whatever next!!?? I’ve always found you to be politically unbiased, insightful, open-minded and progressive with a great degree of tact and diplomacy Baz! Your political posts manage to carefully navigate the middle grounds while analytically exploring the pros and cons of polarised opinions using well researched data to offer informed alternative propositions to main-stream alignments and ideologies.
Politics starts with the electorate. It begins with us! If there is no knowledge of the issues, no discussion , no enlightenment then there’s no direction to it and a vacuum exists for the oligarchs, the narcissists, the would be dictators to thrive. Discussion, debate is what it’s all about, finding the consensus that reasonably reflects the needs of society. Some are passionate in their arguments because they really do care, some are frankly happy with their lot and don’t care for the argument. Some actually aren’t really bothered about the argument but like the sound of their own voice and will perpetuate the argument so as to fulfil their own need to feel popular and others do care and have their views but don’t want a fuss. As it’s been said no end of times it’s a forum for old buses so why talk politics.... well.. because it’s an opportunity for discourse cos that’s what we do. It’s clearly going to stray to the issues of the day. You don’t have to join in!
Jeez, I only said not a moment too soon & that I think he’s an odious little man! I believe he’s a cheat & a liar and not a very good one at that.... Who can honestly say they believed one word of what spilled from his corrupt sneery mouth in the Downing St rose garden after the Barnard castle debacle? Anyone? All through my lifetime this type of thing has happened when the tories are in power, they just can’t help themselves. They are always too busy laying traps for the next poor sod & feathering their own nests or working toward their own personal agenda to do anything good for the country or the good of the people, but then that’s capitalists for you. Bazza... as it happens I agree with you about the free school meal scheme but if I get a warning now, you sir are off my xmas card list
Blair has massively benefited from his time in office but George W was going in with or without us. Blair was just sucking up with the 'special relationship'.
It all looked a bit staged to me... Dom coming out the front door, to waiting press, clutching the obligatory cardboard box and framed photo of Boris... hmmm
Let’s be honest, Cummings did a great job. He was a campaign ‘spin-doctor’ who came up with a ‘brilliant’ publicity stunt that paid off more than even he I suspect could have imagined. The fact that it was based on complete fabrication bears no importance to him or anyone else that jumped on the bang bus - sorry - Boris bus - and rode it to victory. Truth isn’t important in his job, it’s winning that counts. Headlines grab attention and infiltrate the public mindset, by the time the truth has been pointed out the job’s been finished and it doesn’t matter, and those that benefitted are past caring- if they ever did, which clearly they didn’t. Just look across the pond to see how continually lying to the public on subjects that they feel passionately about works. Cummings has been a convenient scapegoat, I’m just surprised it took this long as the opportunity to divest themselves of association with the blatant falsehoods was perfect.
The only annoying thing about political threads on here is they drag a couple of people, who take no other part in TLB, out from under their rocks.
No that is bullMarmite you started the thread by saying it was good leader ship there was nothing in the first post applauding rashford ... was only when you were called out did you wriggle. @Mr Blue Sky good advice from someone who I suspect has some similar values and background. I used to try and fight my corner in political posts but you find there are some bullMarmiteters, trolls, etc I tend to spend less time on those than I might have in the past.
I find it both fascinating and sometimes depressing to see how divided we are in opinions when we open up this can of worms. New voices appearing in these discussions often offer some insight to me into just how varied and different people’s opinions are. I try to resist but sooner or later I can’t help myself but join in. We all have opinions. It’s nice though when we go back to other TLB sections and carry on without these political diversities affecting how we get on. If we fail at that then I think it’s time to individually recognise it and find common ground to agree on and back away from areas we can’t.
Is this not General Discussion? The topic is newsworthy.... It’s actually on all the news stations on the hour every hour..... It’s not hurting anyone & not everything can be a ‘laugh’, a cry for plumbing help, about Covid or indeed about old VW’s that we can’t even use at the moment.....people have opinions on these things so it’s bound to cause some sort of discussion.... If you don’t like it or want to get involved don’t read it, same as if you don’t like what’s in the paper don’t buy one or if you don’t want to hear what’s in the news don’t turn it on.... we all have choices in this life. Everyone have a good day
If you read my opening post I say well done Boris for listening to and looking at the work Marcus Rashford has done and overturning the decision to stop the free school meal scheme then I added tongue in cheek which I knew would upset you miserable lack of sense of humour bar stewards that it was good leadership by probably the worse PM this country has had since Tony Blair, Well done Boris for listening to Marcus Rashford and overturning the vote to stop free school meals for poor and underprivileged children, shows he's not afraid to make a U-turn when it is right to do so, good leadership I say
