I meant after you find you're keeping your job, if it turns out that way. It reminds one what a knife edge we live on and as others have pointed out, when the writing's on the wall it might be better to jump before you're pushed.

  2. Wow we had a 12 week consultation period or something?

    Good luck Doug...
'out of seeds of adversity come opportunity' & all that jazz. Could be the best thing that happens ;)

  4. Infact just checked it was eight, ours was done in three months, then they said to me I had been made redundant but we need to keep you on for another 12 months so we can pass my work over to a third party.
    It was nonsense.

  5. Good luck. I was let go before Christmas. Got another job after a few days, less pay but hey ho. Me and Mrs K are trying to grasp a totally different opportunity. Probably wouldn't have done it in different circumstances. Fingers crossed for you. Whatever the outcome.

With a 15 year payout and insurance policy riding on redundancy, jumping doesn't make sense.
I'm not naive, I reckon this'll only be the first round of redundancies, so I'll start putting some irons out there. If I don't go this time it could well happen later.

  7. Yep in same position mate, I know next year they'll be another restructure then another..............

  8. reminds me of the first time I was made redundant, just before two guys decided to hand their notice in. as a result they lost a lot of money from redundancy payments and also the share options that they weren't allowed to take with them.

  9. The worst scenarios I've seen during redundancy programs are those where you're put on a redeployment list.

This seems to mean that if they offer you a post within what they class as a commutable distance you have to accept it otherwise they class it as you've resigned and therefore get no redundancy payments nor any special treatment re such share option maturation dates.

Yeah, I know, it's just fun to put myself in your position for a minute - I've been at a few crossroads and had a few near misses.

  11. I think by law it's 90 days depending on how many to be made redundant

First interviews held today. Nothing but a box ticking exercise for them but had to go through it.
I'll know next Friday if I've got a job or not, so not got long to wait! Then the (un?)lucky losers get a couple of weeks consultation which again is a box ticking exercise, then notice will be given.
On the plus side I'll get 3 months notice if I'm one of those to get binned.

Short sharp shock then 3 months to recover.
I was beavering away making £100k/year when my work tailed off. Nothing unusual. But then I noticed no new projects, just milestones on existing ones i'd already started. They'd put my work out for tender without telling me! Only large building companies got to bid - political thing. Someone might have mentioned it though!
that's when i thought enough is enough and started hacking vans.

  18. I was made redundant while away on holiday. Came back on the Monday, escorted to my desk, told to clear it and leave. Nice.
