Oh dear, not good news. I guess you want to know sooner rather than later? Maybe if you are made redundant something fab will come along.

Alternatively you could emulate those frenchies and take the managers hostage until they drop redundancies :)

    I hadn't thought of that!
I wouldn't really want to spend the time locked in a room with them though.

I'd make all the ugly people redundant and keep all the lookers......regardless of abilties.

    Best of luck;)

  5. well you have some time to look for something else ,my redundancy was sudden as the company went in to liquidation after fiddling the books .At the time it was bad news but looking back it was one of the best things that ever happened to me ,I'm my own boss now ,in charge of my own destiny.perhaps this could be a good time to have a change of direction

Become a "Consultant", that seems to be popular amongst people I know who have been made redundant.
One friend in the aerospace industry walked out with his redundancy payout last November & walked back in a couple of weeks ago as a consultant on 3 times the money, same job, same staff but about half the hours.

  8. It's unsettling mate but look at it as the opportunity of the summer off....Bit of a pay off and the ASU policy kicking in.... Just hope for good weather.

Bad news Doug, but exciting to think about all the different possibilities that could open up for you.

I've had 3 jobs in my life, got made redundant from the 1st 2 both after 13 years, if you have strong work ethics there will be a job, get proactive NOW before the push, I was "unemployed" for 9 days only when I got the job I'm in now, I started looking the minute I heard a sniff.... Don't bum around all summer, make your job looking for a job.

  14. If that's the case then is it possible to go via a voluntary arrangement? Take the package and have a clean break on your own terms?

I've been through the process twice now. First time it was a foregone conclusion, no real debate, told them to f-off with the offer they gave and got more money AND shorter period to work out before i left. I also gave back my company car and bought a clunker - they then had to pay me the "opt out" money for the car for the notice period which more than covered the cost of the temporary car i'd bought. I got another job on the same money after 3 months.. hadn't really spent any of the redundance money so bought myself an elise :)

Second time i went through it was last year, survived the cull but tbh i was very close to taking the voluntary option.. the guys who left all had jobs within a few weeks.

  15. Like nearly everyone's said, it's a real worry at first, but in my case it prompted a change of direction that was the best thing ever. And if you hate the place it was clearly time to go anyway. Why not write a list of all the things you'd like to do instead and where you might find them/training that'd get you there. Then you'd have a plan and your head in the right place if the axe does fall ... it'd make you feel a lot better. Better a forward plan than knee-jerk crisis management. Like @rickyrooo1 said, stay upbeat and proactive.

    Good luck...

    Cheers all.
I'm not worried about it at all. I'm very much of the opinion "it is what it is".
I just can't decide what I'd prefer to happen. Nothing or redundancy.

  17. Doug better get down the dole office then.

  18. I had been made redundant and was looking forward to the pay out and the new start but then they took it away from me which *******ed me off even more as I had made plans but knowing you you'll be fine mate either way

I was just going to say similar - you'll start to warm to the possibilities only for it to be snatched away by keeping your job. Get's you thinking though. :)

There won't be a lot of time to think of the possibilities. It'll all be done and dusted in 4 weeks, either way!
