Good news I wouldn’t want to be on the hard shoulder on either of those Mways. M40 is a bit of a racetrack. At least you weren’t on a ‘smart’ mway. have you graduated from one of the last Techenders standing to last one home? tho f.pantos has quite a trek!
Was it a BP garage, Blue pumps are adblue. Green is petrol, I think you misfueled. Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Go on then Col, what’s happened or has you gone straight to bed for a rest? Ozziedog,,,,,,,,glad you is in one piece
He says it was an Esso garage in the Techenders thread but yes it does sound like a classic case of misfuelling!
Me too and it did happen, now I have little panic attacks when I fill up at said garage. Good luck hope it’s not adblue. That stuff is highly corrosive and can dissolve materials that are not listed as AdBlue
Thanks for all the good wishes. there was no smoke at all - would diesel smoke? It will turn over happily but not even attempt to start - would diesel at least try to cough and splutter? electronic ignition is my ‘expert’ opinion
Adblue is basically refined ******* mixed with water. Anyway the nozzle for these pumps is quite a bit smaller than either of the fuels. You’d probably notice. Also, I only tend to see adblue at truck specific pumps, I have to drive into those to get adblue for my Skoda, and always get stupid looks from people...
I seem to remember my dad saying there was a lot of white smoke when he put diesel in his petrol engined Escort years ago
Not really any help to @CollyP buy a funny story today sort of related to the posts above .. one of the lads complained about the quality of screen wash we’d been supplying to the fleet .. turns out he’d been using Adblue Said it stunk... it would do- of pig pee
It's hard to check for spark on your own, as I found out in July, you can't be in two places at once. I reckon you did the right thing Col, don't even try to troubleshoot call for a tow and stay safe.
Adblue is basically water for the purposes of running an engine. It would come out of the tank first and stop you in around 100 metres. Diesel would be masses if white smoke, loss of power, not necessarily coming to a stop, but impossible to restart. And you would get a decoke for free.. Chugging to a stop could be the classic label in petrol tank blocking outlet. Because it happened while going fast its unlikely to be overfuelling/flooding . Start by checking for a spark. And then for 12 volts on the coil. Turn ignition on. Have a wire from the second tag on the starter that you can touch onto battery plus to crank. Dont need a helper then. Things that happened to my engines resulting in a loss of power. Main output wire on alternator loose, battery went flat without lighting warning light. Wouldnt start. Had to call AA for jump start. Ignition lead to No.3 fell off. Loss of power, replaced wire, continued. Fuel pipe fell off. Replaced, continued. Thanks to shutoff solenoid this was minor. Rocker assembly unbolted. Drove to quiet place, refitted, continued. Spring clip failed on rocker arm. Massive backfiring, couldnt drive up slight hill but could start and run engine. Yellow taxi time. Valve failed, lost piston and conrod, engine on three cylinders, hole in block . Loss of power, still ran until I turned it off.. Yellow taxi time.
Sounds similar to one of my experiences. Turned out to be water in the petrol. Spotted it in the float bowls when I was checking for blockages. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
