  1. Indeed I do!! :)

Type 1 motors are sods for bending the stock crank (due to over revving) this then hammers the centre saddle as it's a split bearing... Even my crank regrinding guy won't regrind type 1 cranks to the next shell size... they're reground straight, even if that means jumping a size or two

I'll look into doing it, but it might not be massively easy to achieve

  2. The motor that came with the van was a recon and had about 1500 miles on it when the crank snapped and trashed the case! I'm not planning on high revving it in fact I'm hoping the more torque will limit the thrash in low gear getting up hills!

  3. Rev limiting rotor arm might not be a bad idea either!! ;)

  4. what do they limit at? I'm fitting a rev counter to limit myself!!!!

  5. Stock 1600 one is 4500rpm, type 4 ones and WXB are 5400rpm.
A 5000rpm one would be nice if it was available as i can bounce my 1600 off the limiter in 3rd if overtaking someone.

  6. Other option is to go to a stand alone unit that you can program/adjust

  7. Id just run a rev counter and try to behave myself
Those rev limiting rotor arms are another failure point to add to the mix and anything electronic and adjustable is going to cost.

Barrel air deflectors... The smaller one will be off an early sp 1200

You now have a pair that are the correct size!!

    Para re-worked heads

  13. After almost a year the 1776 is finally in and running but not without a fight. Engine was fitted and started but only 30 secs into the cam burn the engine note changes so shut off quickly. Investigation lead to finding the rocker on #1 inlet had seized on the shaft because of a lump of swarf. Managed to free it off and replace the shaft. Just need to get the carbs balanced now and see what she goes like.

Will be able to drive her for a couple of weeks before a beam swap and power steering ready for MOT.

  14. Bugger about the swarf

What's the power steering? Lite steer?

  15. that was a word I used!

Yes Litesteer, cost a bit but really well made. Can't wait to try it.

  16. Well I went to pick up the van today and it sounds great at idle but has no grunt and top speed on the flat is 50! To say I feel completely p****d off is an understatement. Had a quick play around with the timing and it was a little retarded but no great improvement in running. Feels like it's being strangled at around 2500/3000 rpm.

Have it booked in for a rolling road session in Plymouth but that's an 80 mile drive away. I had hoped to have got the jets somewhere close. Let's hope that it is just jetting as I can't take much more with this engine.

  17. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Was it getting hot very quickly? What main jets?

  18. I'm fitting a Megasquirt ignition system to a classic mini turbo and an Accuspark Blackbox to a 2l Vitesse. Be interesting which is easier to program to get right although the mini will be set up on a rolling road. Might consider a blackbox for the camper if it's not too much overkill!
