I do hope some of the peeps who wonder why it costs a lot to paint a bus are reading this and seeing the unexpected extra work you just had to do. :)

  2. exactly... 8)

    Things to factor in

Paint - top coat (approx 7l to do the inside and outside of a bay)
    Primer - 4l high build
Hardener for above (primer is 4:1, top 2:1)
    Thinners - normally 5l
    Panel wipe
    Masking materials (plastic, tapes, paper)
    Blue paper
    Tack cloths

Add all that up and it's not a cheap materials bill!!

  3. I dont mind painting its the prep that drives me crazy especially with a slab sided vehicle like a bus

  4. Coming along nicely dude

Would love to spend a couple days watching you paint, learning a few skills.

I need to do my bus, dear god

  5. its looking mighty fine 8)

  10. As the weather has gone majorly cold again, and I'm waiting on bits, I got back to finishing the body off!!

Engine bay is a serious mess on this one.. somewhere in its past the split has had some wax sprayed round the engine bay... not only is it messy, it really is a fire hazard too!!

    Part way through...

Nice bit of bare metal under the wax too

I'm currently on the thankless task of scrubbing all of the surfaces down with panel wipe and a coarse scotch pad to clean all the wax residue off... gonna take a bit of time even on such a small space!!

Hopefully have it in paint by monday

  11. Its a pain in the ass to remove aint it lol
I hope it doesent cause you any reactions come paint time

  12. ah, the curse of waxoyl over bare metal - I know it well :)

I am sure this one will turn out a real beauty.

    Cheers

  13. me too, hence the scrubbing... hopefully that'll sort it!!

I might epoxy prime it first too... runs a different solvent system to 2 pack, so it might cover with less issues!! :)

Me too!! it's looking pretty good so far!! :)

  14. So I got some primer on this afternoon... I'll check it in a bit, and get some photos, but I didn't see any initial paint reactions

If it's set enough I might chuck some top coat on it too :D

  15. HorTs we need the useless without pics smiley back

Im glad to hear theres no initial reactions paul now go get some pics lol

I was going to put some top coat on, but the primer was a little soft still, and as it's a different solvent system to 2k, I don't like doing it wet on wet!!
I'll top coat it in the morning

  17. Sure makes a difference a coat of primer:)

So whats left to do on it after the engine bay is painted?

  18. Doors, bumpers, pop out frames, cab door tops, rear valance, wheels and a few little bits!!

It's a fair old list of bits to paint o_O
