yup, it's done! I will finish the bodywork in the spring.. for now, it should be water tight... On the road again.
Much appreciated- i could download the issue but i'd like to get a paper copy when it comes(and not pay twice!)...Probably be a couple weeks.
pm me your address mate & I'll send it over to you when Ive read it - probably middle of next week, yours if you want it!
Tonight's work: cut and por 15 some rust out of the tail This part i will leave for now, but it will look a bit better with no rust peeking out from behind the bumper. Needs more metal work than i can handle right now. 2 patches welded in and ready for a skim coat at 10pm. Welding is a bit rough but solid. The panel pushed in a bit on me but a thin skim of bondo will fair it up enough.. Only 1/16th.
Well, you can see it needs another coat of bondo to smooth it out, but that will have to wait.. It's my bedtime! Once the bumper is on, it's less noticeable: And the rear apron looks much better.. You can see the cut line but at least it's not all rusty anymore. Sorry, forgot to do before pics!
Well, in the 2 years of ownership I have done the following: Cleaned and painted new pop top new pop top canvas new tail light lenses new front signal lenses new right front wheel arch new right rear wheel arch new left rear wheel arch new metal patch on right rear near tail light new metal on windshield sill new windshield and rubber stereo and speakers headrests German clutch cable 3 point safety belts front 3 point safety belts rear painted dashboard metal POR 15'd visible surface rust lowered with WagensWest horseshoes in rear and new rust free stock width adjustable beam up front new ball joints new front shocks painted wheels new rear shocks several tune ups including new points, condensor, spark plugs, timing new (decorative) spotlight trailer hitch About $2500 plus at least 100-150 hours of my own labour. This list should serve me well should i ever (soon?) decide to part with this bus.
Done for now. My finish bodywork is horrible as usual but it's gotta be covered up and ready to roll tomorrow. Engine lid will be replaced so i didn't bother fixing it..
This saturday... Would you use any other spot filler on your kombi? Hopefully once the paint hardens i can blend it a bit... Upgrading from rustfalia to ratfalia...not too much rust left.
Way to go. I'll be hacking out some rust soon as well. You body work looks good. Each time you try it, it'll ge better.
Now why did i have to go and do a stupid thing like that? Subfloor was mush. Not bad for rust in there, though.
And thanks, all. I did finally get a copy of Volksworld and found my bus and I in there. My 5year old daughter was so excited to see me in there... I had no idea she would even understand the significance. Wish now i'd have put the kids in the picture..what a terrible dad! At least i mentioned their names (partial redemption).
