  1. Looking good. I've noticed you've got a 3/4 bed but have two child seats. How are your child seats secured in the back?

  2. Zebedee: yes I am running 185R14 stock size tires for now. I would like to go to maybe some 195 65 14 on the front and 195 70 14 on the rear or something with a slightly smaller sidewall height. However, I don't have the $$ and would rather save up for some gasburners or fuchs and some 15 inch tires to match. Right now, there is about an inch atop the front tires. No rubbing, but I am only 160lbs, and my wife is about 115. I think a heavy driver would show some rubbing issues..

Drunk Aardvark: I have both seats put in with the stock lap belts and have installed anchors for the tethers that come off the rear of the seats. I have seen 3/4 Westy beds with shoulder belts, so my plan is to use my stock front belts back there. the mounting points are all there. I am using T3 belts up front now.

and scored this vintage homemade ladder off a friend of my dad's - he made it in the 70's for his Westy!

it just rests against the lip in the floor

and folds in half and stores in the bunk when not in use.

  6. I figure the kids will spend hours going up and down...just for fun. They love to play up there, even at home in the driveway.

  7. Thats gonna sit nicely. :)

looks okay from 5 feet or so.. needs some scratch filling and paint. My body work skills are not great, but hey, now it's metal again!

  9. broke down today in rush hour on a major roadway..no choice but to drag her home.

  10. Sorry to hear that chap at least u all got home safe

  11. Think it might be just a fuel filter..

  12. Nice cheap fix

  13. Love the thread. Van looks great. One step at a time will get it all done after a while. Working on it as a driver works great, because you can run it down the road to remind yourself how great it is to own and drive. Congrats. Keep up the thread thou, we all want to help out by answering questions or just "looking on"!

  14. Hey, thanks! I agree- keeping er running is a great motivator. I absolutely love (almost) every minute I spend in this thing, and it keeps the work going as I get an instant pay off. I say almost b/c there have been several minutes of broken down bus that weren't so great.. but hey, I have fixed every one myself with limited skill and knowledge and the cost has been reasonable.

All this said, the latest glitch forced me to put my winter driver on the road and take the bus off.. I was going to do it soon anyways. I am hoping to make some good progress with metal work over the winter and then reap the benefits come spring.. next up other 2 wheel arches, inner and outer rockers both sides, rear valance, tailgate... it won't all happen this winter, but one step at a time.

comments keep me motivated too, thanks!

  15. Well, i was going to do some work on the bus over the winter while it was laid up in the shop and i drove my winter car. But my wife's fancy Lexus RX300 blew its trans and now i will be daily driving my bus again. Just in time for the cold weather!

Solved the last problem with a new fuel pump and filter, and going back to points ignition from pertronix.

Had to do some quick body work to winterize:

  17. You are still coming ahead thou. Good luck with getting you wife's car back on road so you can save yourself from freezing. (and of course get the van some TLC).

Panel fitting is not my strength... Here is the only seam weld i did, the rest were lapped to provide a margin for inevitable error.

    Getting there..
