If I'm in the mood and it's not raining tomorrow I'll do a quick idle mix video just to show in how easy it is. I'm fairly sure people worry to much about this and get it wrong. It does make a difference not just to idle but if it's idling lean it won't pick up very well and it will pop and fart when you get back to idle.
I just increased the fuel pressure on the regulator incase that was the issue. If I'm light on the throttle it doesn't pop it's as I press it firm. A set up video would be incredible but only if you are free and bored. I have reversed about 2m and it goes but I dare go any further without brakes.
The ok when gentle thing is often a weak spark so maybe you could go over that again. Run it in the dark and see if there are HT sparks dancing about on the terminal end of the coil, the distributor cap or anywhere on the HT system. I once sold a car that was like that. The buyer disappeared after paying and came back with a distributor cap in his hand, fitted it and drove off laughing. The barsteward. lol
I just put back on my new ignition coil. Sounding alot better. Been running it for about an hour and sump temp staying at 108⁰f. The engine was missing the oil cooler flap so I fixed some tin in place
Brakes bled, tyres pumped up and oil in the steering thingy, Just went around the car park alot of staggering, but atleast it moved under its own power. I just had a though the guy I bought the carbs from said they were jetted for 1700. The guy I bought the engine from said it was a 914 high compression do you think I need to get new jets?
I doubt it, I took my carbs off my old 2020cc type-1, put them on my 2.4L type-4 and it ran perfectly. Mains are matched to venturis, idles are idles - 55-60 for everything. What carbs do you have?
..... Empi 34 EPC. They were very cheap and I was unaware of how bad everyone rates them haha. Slow speeds it drive well. As soon as I hit 3000rpm it staggers and shudders
To get any advice you'll need to take them apart and note down idle, main, main air size and emulsion tube type. Even then it's possible someone drilled the jets, but not usual here in the UK as jets are pretty cheap and easy to get. While you're in there check/set the float height. AFAIK EPC are pretty much the same as Weber ICT. Some Empi carbs are fine so they say though I have no experience of your EPC ones.

Yes you do! if it's F87 they are bobbins in a bus. If it's F3, F4 or F6 you're golden. ICT users will comment better on your main and air sizes but they look ok to me. ICT main sizes are strange compared to any other carburettor.

Make sure it's running properly or you might wreck it and be back to square one. It takes as long as it takes as they say. WoW tends on the rich side so if your mains are a size smaller I wouldn't be overly concerned.
I'm slowly learning not to rush it and be more methodical. It's just hard to fight ones nature haha, but atleast this time I haven't just done that'll do, I've done everything properly and used correct gaskets. Also fixed things I never got round to. The goal after owning it for seven year is to go to atleast one meet up
In the long run it's quicker to take your time than do everything 2 or 3 times. Another thing I learned about "new" engines is build them up, install and connect everything but don't start it until the next day. Sometimes you lie in bed and think - aha, I forget x,y or z. Also if it doesn't go well you've got all day fresh instead of being tired and tearing your hair out late in the evening.
I have 3 things to check tomorrow. The emulsion, Just ordered an fuel pressure gauge to eliminate that, I'll also double check the timing ( but it is starting with the flick of the key now, so don't think that's it)
F6 for emulsion tubes. You can get them from Eurocarb. Have you fitted a balance pipe between the two carbs?
Weber ICT's do not like high fuel pressure. 2.5 psi to 3 psi. I fitted a filterking pressure regulator/filter. Great bit of kit. Your jets look like good sizes. Make sure the idle jets are clear and that it is not trying to run on the main jets with a blockage in one of the idle jets. Also, rough running can be due to air leaks. The Empi manifolds can be slightly rough on the castings. what manifold base gaskets are you using? The thicker fibre gaskets are the best as they help to eliminate air leaks. That's a very good point I just remembered I have both these gaskets on I forgot to take off the metal ones when I got the fiber ones Yeah I got the filter king one the basic one very easy to adjust but need a gauge to know where to set it. I bought a carb rebuild kit the other day and stripped them both down and wiped and strayed carb cleaner everywhere I could. The both had alot of rust powder from the last owner. balance pipe fitted with a T going to the brakes with a one way valve Lastly I will double check the emulsion tubes tomorrow. ☺️
