Ah, they do, but it's for Porsche style cooling. I have a bell crank linkage on my type 4, but it is a modified type 1 linkage, as I have upright fan conversion. I'm sure I have seen them fitted to standard cooling type 4 engines though. You would probably just need to fab a bracket in the middle to fix it to. in fact I think @zedders has done it?
I have asked CSP themselves. In my experience, the bell crank style is far simpler and much cheaper, if there's one that fits I think I would rather replace the whole shebang with a bell crank style, especially if I can do it for roughly a ton. If I have to replace the rose joints etc on mine, I could easily spend that and still be in geometry hell.
Vintage speed do one specifically, but bit more money. I think heritage and a few others are dealers since Dan Simpson passed away Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CSP got back pretty quick and said they don't do one for "stock" type 4 and I should use their hex bar linkage; that's a shame I really like their stuff but £200+
Go for the vintage speed one. It’s made for type 4. Their stuff is ace. I have 2 of their shifters, exhaust and fuel gauge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CSP bell crank 129 941 400 fits a Type 4 with standard cooling perfectly. https://www.csp-shop.com/en/engine/bellcrank-linkage-csp-129-941-400-18236a.html?cache=1600166765
That’s what they told me but they’re wrong and their bell crank does fit. Zedders modified his so the linkage is towards the back of the bus, mine is as supplied by CSP, no mods required but adjustment might be more difficult as you have to reach between the carbs and the bulkhead.
I don’t know why but they’ve said that for years and they must be losing orders. I didn’t believe them because I couldn’t see any reason why it wouldn’t fit; it’s nowhere near the fan shroud, it’s at the other end of the engine. By the way that’s CB manifolds with Weber IDF carbs, but it will fit Dells just the same.
Aren't IDF and DRLA just pretty much 'similar' where it matters? Yeah, I can see your base plates for the CB linkage, the bit that's worn on mine.
Not the new ones. But you can buy a conversion ’kit’ to move the return spring on one carb to the other end to make a left and right. I fitted it, didn’t like it – it made the throttle return sticky – and removed it. You can just about see the springs in the pics.
