Bell Crank or Hex Bar?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by F_Pantos, Sep 15, 2020.

  1. So @mikedjames and myself discovered at TE that my CB Performance hex bar linkage is worn. Having one person operate it, where the cable attaches while the other focus on the ball joints and the linkage ends, you can see vertical movement that shouldn't happen.

I got home but it still pops when downshifting :(

On Sunday, it didn't matter how hard we tried we could get the linkage to adjust so both carbs closed or opened correctly in sync, even by eye, let alone with a meter, it just wouldn't happen. I don't think I stand a chance of having sync'd carbs with this worn linkage.

So I have good experiences with CSP stuff, should I go for another hex bar, or the bell Crank style one? It's a type 4. What are your experiences/thoughts?

    Thanks.

Which bits are worn? If it's the joints then they are called rod ends and come in metric and imperial sizes. I usually get them from McGill Motorsport

  9. It's not the rose bearings, it's the ball and socket on the bar itself, if that helps?

  12. Found the CB part on Eurocarb, CB3360

If I need a new bar it's £42, roughly for a bar and two new balls.

A new CSP hex bar linkage is going to £200+

  13. I guess so. I think mine are ok. Are you needing new ones?

I go for bell crank everytime these days. They are so much easier to balance, and stay balanced.

  16. Hi ya, glad to hear you got back ok, despite the popping! You aren’t f pantos for nothing

I love the csp centre mount on my bug. Not sure if the vintage speed one fits type 4, but that looks good too. So many less parts for wear and additional movement. Need the additional spring that isn’t included though as the carb springs aren’t enough.

  17. Do CSP do a type 4 bell crank? I thought they did, now I can't seem to find it! Must admit I have bell crank on the Bug and I agree, much easier to set up; far less complex geometry to worry about.
