I found this really helpful company, Textile Technologies, as Vitcas were useless. I bought a metre for £33.60 delivered. It's good up to about 700°C which I trust is enough!

I used a plumbers soldering barrier mat. Might have had to buy 2 and they looked suspiciously exactly like your stuff, less than a tenner each from any plumbers merchants.

 

I did do double layers in all 4 and have enough left for another in single layer, so probably about the same price? But yes it's probably very similar.

 

I couldn't think what to use and was in my favourite fixings shop when the chap suggested it so I got it then and there...which was handy. You definitely got more quantity than I did, the mats aren't as big as one would like, I used up the whole lot apart from a few trimmings. Probably just one layer. You've made a fab job of yours all round, I was going through the motions like an automaton by this point of my resto, it was one of the very last things I did. You think you're nearly there and there's still another 100 hours in it. lol

I know what you mean about hours. I've been at this for nearly 3 yrs and I haven't even done the body panels (one's got a dent and sliding door corners are starting to bubble). But you got there in the end and hopefully I'm nearly there - target is to get an MoT!

Oiled the door hinges (first time in 20+ years probably) after reading about doing it in this very thread.

Should I oil my accelerator pedal assembly? If so which bits - it creaks really loudly

 

It's probably full of gunk. If you can take the long bar thingy by the pedal off, I would give it a good clean and then lube every moving part.

 

I adjusted the handbrake I think I'll have to change the cables soon, did the timing it was well out, fitted new passenger door seal with good quality soft grey spongy seal which I've had for over a year now the door closes and put seals in head lights so all in all I've been a busy boy, time for a cider me thinks

 

That was just after you adjusted the rear brake shoes right?

 

Yes sprayed the adjusters so they were spinning nice and free adjusted the brakes with the wheels on, the driver's side was not adjusted at all, then adjusted the hand brake to 5 clicks and then checked with a stall test

 

I should have more faith in you.
