  1. An undocumented “feature” of the Hella pull switches is that bulb is on all the time, so they glow in the dark even if they’re off.

Fine if they’re powered off the ignition supply, but if they’re on an unswitched supply they’ll pull 75mA all the time and (very) slowly run your battery down.

I am enlightened! I'll check but I think the two I've got are on the ign circuit.

  3. They’re labelled as “15”, so Hella are off the hook ;). I’d never noticed it before.

Done quite cleverly with an angled light pipe rather than a resistor.

I had some carpet left over from doing the rear of the caddy

  5. Making Bertie’s face naked...! Visor hacked off this morning & bumper off this afternoon.
I know it’s probably not a triumph for you more experienced guys to get a bumper off, but I’m so impressed with myself for getting it off without any injuries!

The trick is to swap the inpu
The simple trick is to swap the input and output feed wire.. then 12 volts is only on the indicator bulb when you turn on the switch. Clever Hella.

Discovered that logic by wondering why the bulb only came on when I turned on the fog lights and wasnt glowing when the headlights were on..

Your van looks like it's had all its teeth pulled out at the dentist and so it's afraid to smile for the camera

Took the slider off to sort out getting at the lip of metal holding the door seal in that gets whacked by the slider when it is about to fall off .
Also built up the rear latch striker with weld as it was being eaten by being whacked by the lock .. again door sagging issues in the past.

  10. Yes, you’re right. Damn clever, these Germans

Sum-up for @Mark Darby (who’s probably thoroughly confused by now ;)): if you want the switch to glimmer softly so you can find it in the dark, connect the supply to 15(K) ie the “wrong” way round. The light will come on full brightness when you operate the switch. If you don’t want any glimmering, connect the supply to K(15). The light will then only come on when the switch is operated.

I like that. Nice bit of minimalist engineering.

Can't beat low down indicators, really don't know why they changed them.

    Thank you

  13. I've had the engine and box in the garage for a few weeks now. Yesterday I resealed the bell housing, nose cone and fitted a new seal to the shift rod, as it's been *******ing oil for years, . Today I refitted the box and connected everything back up. I cleaned up the earth strap as well.

I fitted a new shift coupling, but didn't trial fit it first, and the sodding thing jammed half on. Half An hour to single handedly refit the box, and two hours of swearing at crappy repop parts, skinning my fingers getting it off, filing the socket and getting the wife to wiggle the gearstick back and forth to get the sodding thing back on....grrr.

Well this was the fruit of this week's labours - building up my heat exchangers.
Didn't like the missing collars around the exhaust pipes

Cut and shape some eml to fit - had to flatten the middle bit of each section as it was getting a bit snug in there!

All four halves done and ready to reassemble

You WILL stay where I want you!

Then a lot of fettling to recrimp all the edges - and a smattering of tack welds to help keep it all together
