why do lorry drivers think they have the right to block lanes?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by rickyrooo1, Mar 6, 2016.

  1. Why dont lorry drivers slow down to allow their colleagues to pass when they start the old 1mph, if your lucky, overtaking manouvre that invariably results in the truck in the slow lane speeding up, or so it seems so they end up side by side for miles on end. This does cause traffic to compress and invariably someone who likely isnt a profesional driver to crash. Do these morons not drive in their private lives, or is it different hen they are on their own with noone to impress!

I hate folk who push in last minute more. The other day I was on a dual carriageway heading to the M1 and traffic much worse than usual. Wagon in front of me started to straddle the lanes but muppet in a Beamer squeezed by. 100 yards later and I realised why the wagon was trying to block the outside lane. 4 cars had crashed and were on the central reservation along with some of the passengers. Luckily muppet hadn't wiped them out,

  3. both lanes should be used up to the merge point,

The road contractors should sign it saying so...!

theres no point having a mile long Q, [causing blockages] and an empty lane next to it...

  5. Got to remember, we're all human, nobody's perfect. Wagon drivers are just out trying to do their days or nights work., like anybody else. Sometimes mistazes happen. Sometimes people are just dicks. Unfortunate!ly its under the gaze of thousands of other people who think they are perfect. (Or not)
I wonder how many other professions would like to be watched and criticized constantly by huge numbers of strangers at their place of work, strangers who have no understanding of said job.

i'm not having a go but what i'm saying is there is no law that says a lorry driver or a c2 driver has the right to decide he can filter traffic just cos a bmw will pile down the side...... it narks me the last minute dive in merchant - but i ain't the law, i don't dive in but i want to be able to merge courtiously not held up by a selfish driver whatever they are in.

I think they are doing you a service. Merge in turn works quite well if everybody does it. If the truck slows the traffic down just right, he will reach the single lane section after all the muppets have stopped fighting it out so he can just cruise in.

  11. If you all got off the roads and just let those of us who know how to drive use it, then the problem would be solved. ;)

When I was younger, somehow or other life went on without hundreds of thousands of hgv's clogging the roads. I remember my dad taking me to see the wonder that was the M1 when it got as far north as Leicester. We had to wait a few minutes for a car to drive along it.

  17. funny you should say that. On friday I was out with a group of Year 6 kids, on their road-based cycle training. We teach them to ride in a more prominent condition, when circumstances are such that it would be dangerous for following traffic to overtake. Most of the time, we're an arm's length from the kerb, but there are occassions when it's necessary to take the lane...

So....we're riding, single file, up a narrow street, which was double parked for about 100m...exactly the type of situation where a cyclist should be more prominent...i can hear a vehicle approaching from behind, and turn round to see a middle aged guy in a white van squeezing past the kids, who have now moved in towards the parked cars...leaving an inch or two between them....this guy pulls alongside, peeps his horn, right next to me, winds his window down and shouts some b***ocks or other about kids in the middle of the road...I ignore him and carry on riding....he does it again...I ignore him again, looking for a place to pull over....
At this point he decides to turn into me, and stop....forcing me to slam on....he gets out of the van and starts shouting that I have a duty of care for these children, they shouldn't be on the road....it's dangerous

bear in mind, this is he same bloke who's just forced 7 cyclists, to stop suddenly, has blocked the street with his van and is now shouting (in front of ten year olds) how dangerous the roads are....

He failed to see the irony, when I pointed this out....dick:D
