Get right underneath the van with a torch. You’ll soon find them.

    Good luck, you’ll need a few weekends/evenings.

Given how hesitant a bus with a centremount carb. can get without a lot of heat under the carb, and controlled hot air in the top, it seems like a worthwhile investment in time.

  5. Do they not have much effect on anything?

  6. On exhausts I've had from EMPI and JK, they seem to be (badly) tacked on as an afterthought. Drilling them through will be tricky especially on stainless - you may well come through the wall of the main pipe. Also, on a 4 into 1, there's no differential pressure side to side anyway, as there is on a stock exhaust, so you'll have little gas flow through them to heat the manifold. I'd just bolt them to the manifold risers without drilling. You'll get some heat from conduction.

  8. I had mine just bolted on to the preheat pipes when I had my stock Solex, and it was fine. Does give some heat by conduction.

Then why are my heat risers really hot and actually smoke when oil gets on them ? and the base of the manifold actually warm ? Not as good as stock maybe, but it does something.
Thats with a JK stainless single quiet pack.

Making holes in the wrong place is a valid fear to have indeed, and it did take a lot of work with a Dremel, but it was possible to cut the holes in the right places without going through the wrong places.

  10. Ordered a new starter motor as the old one appears kaput! I guess I'll be spending the one of the upcoming days on my back fiddling with the removal of the old one and re-fitting of the new one! Not the most accessible unit of all time....

  11. Why do you have oil on your heat risers

Got around to putting the fire extinguisher up, rather than shoved under the seat. Had a sudden panic that it might interfere with the opening of beer bottles, so had to do a quick test.... thankfully all is okay :)

Getting it ready to go off for a bit of work (welding round the windscreen and a couple of other bits) so took out the curtains for a wash, and other loose bits that the welder probably doesn’t want kicking around.
