Im going for one spare wheel in the spare wheel well but im going to make a foam padded cover for it Im also going to put a second spare wheel on the rear on a custom swing out carrier and will carry a puncture repair kit aswell
I want it on a swing out on the rear, for two reasons, 1. its out the way and 2. i think it looks cool
On the front leads to serious van damage if you hit something as it sticks out past the bumper and deformation panel. My new bus has this damage (I like it ) but I'll be honest, the damage has pushed in the guts behing the front panel and buggered the handbrake lever mountings, there's no room for the water bottle, can't fit the fresh air pipe, brake reservoir snapped, lights point the wrong way - I could go on... If it had had a late bay deformation panel and bumper, that would have been dented instead and easy repair. [edit] BTW i'm not going to repair it other than mechganically so everything works again - like I said - I like it. This picture is AFTER it's been pushed out again to an extent. I've since pushed the inside out a bit and can nearly get the warm air tree back in.
i was gonna put one on the front - it's had one on there in a previous life, i even bought a wheel holder but i have now decided against it.....i'm gonna stick with having it in the cupboard even though i would like the space, my plan at the moment it to carry the spare in the van for daily running and the odd night out, but when i take my trailer for a longer trip the spare can live in there.
An excellent idea Para! I'll save it for when I get to your house, we can use the landrover. I would like it roughly the right shape, but I want to keep all the creases. Didn't think I'd be allowed a resto thread on here...
On the subject of space savers, I'd be very interested if Birdy's friend does find a suitable space saver. I don't have a spare wheel well in the back (it really was like this from the factory - the only one I've ever seen like this too.....) so my spare currently rattles around in the back. I don't want to roll without one, and a space saver might sling underneath and not hang down too far to be impractical.
Ive never seen a bus without a spare wheel well from new so its interesting to hear Can you put up a pic of yours where it should be? Ive often thought about removing mine so i could fit a small generator on the lhs of the engine bay
Blast this face change thing. I'm getting itchy feet to remove the front wheel and fit a badge. Bum thing will be my Cali plate. Not sure were to place it.
Dont do it birdy It wont end there it will spread and barry wont look tough anymore Keep the wheel on the front and get a bull bar Id have a wheel on the front along with my bull bar but unfourtunatly the wheel doesent fit
That is unusual that there is no wheel well. There is no M code for it either. I'm trying to think back to Paul's bus which I think didn't have a wheel well either but that was a Belgium army bus. I'm wondering if it was a twin slider thing. I'll ask in general questions.
