  1. Ive read a few posts about this and the never ending probs with after market or poor quality stuff, im wondering which ones/ make to go for ? Also to all the experts @zed @Paul Weeding etc 1/ how much play is exceptable if any?, play is up and down but not side to side ?? Just dont want to do the job again in the next few years if i can help anyway. Im getting back plate rubbing the back edge of drum just on one side. cheers for help .

Don't know which bearings are best, but I did have trouble with new back plates rubbing on new drums. This with new bearings already installed. I bent the back plates slightly and put the grinder around the back edge of one of my drums. Sounds excessive but they just didn't fit together very well!

  3. cheers al , how much play is acceptable on bearing? this grinding drum is what chap at garage suggested ,so you still had prob with new bearing fitted , mmmmm:thinking:

Have you jacked it up and spun the wheels Barn?

Did you have new back plates and drums recently?

It's a job to describe how much play, it's just a little tap really. Check it with your handbrake off.

  6. yeh have done bern it only seems apparent if i swing the wheel when driving so more load which does lend to wheel bearing normally , but i assume my old backplates were real ones lol n these aftermarket ones are a bit closer or pants fit too ??

  7. yar new backplates etc , ive done with handbrake off n just a click top to bottom no sideways .

  8. It started when I got in the van :(

New bearings are not a massive job or expense I had exactly the same symptoms and problems, so changed all mine. I still had a little tick with new bearings and a the scraping sound when the wheel was loaded. I started looking at the plates and drums. It's possible that I got myself crap bearings from gsf, but I did ease the problem with my grinder. Still have my little tick though, about the same as the fronts.

Mine was worse on cornering - it wasn't long after I started hearing the noise that I had it sorted and this is what came out

The mechanic took it out for a drive before he stripped it down and he said it didn't sound too bad.
