  1. I've been following your thread for a while now and its great to see your ideas come to life, truely inspirational, it's great to see something different from the norm, certainly makes me feel a bit braver about some of the ideas I've had for my own bus. Keep it up :)

  3. Todays update

Spent some time fettling the latch, then I moved on to the bottom mounting solution!!

So I cut a disc from a bit of stainless flat bar, and then made up a boss with an angle to match the slope on the top of the bumper... bish bash bosh ;)

    Bolt remains upright now

    Added a 2nd open position

    Engine lid semi open-able

    closed

dropped my torch in to give it the rough final spacing once I've sorted the sprung loaded dampener

Just about enough meat for a padlock?

So that's pretty much it.. just got to make up a couple of tapped bosses for the tube ends for the rose joints to fit to!!

Rather than having a padlock for the spare wheel how using a locking wheelnut like you have on an alloy wheel on your car?

  10. I'd have to use fine pitch bolts... but that is an option [IMG]

  14. And no need to relocate the numberplate and light like a devon and easier acess to the engine bay than the devon carrier

  15. I didnt realise they were getting poweder coated paul:thumbsup:

  16. Good point Para regarding the number plate and light ,as for access I could never understand the issue it takes me maybe 4 seconds to undo 2 catched and let gravity take over :)

  17. Paul mate i have a concern with the locking mechanism also being on the top hinge

If someone was to pull on the wheel or try to climb on it all the force is going to be concentrated on that top mount
Its also going to get a lot of force on it from the wheel trying to bounce around on rough terrain

  18. Once the devon one is layed hotizontal it makes it awkward for access dude as you have to lean over the spare
With the swing away carrier you have space to get right inside the engine bay

  19. Thinking about this theres nowt that can be done whilst its in the open position

However in the closed position if you added a supporting type rest on the rear hatch then it would be supported at 3 points of a triangle and would spread the load a lot better

Let me know what you think?

  20. Id rather have a padlock to be honest as im lees likely to lose the key off my key ring than i am a locking wheel nut
