  2. Gave my rear hatch trim panel another coat of yacht varnish. Looks pretty shiny now. :)

Cleaned the dust off the dash too.

You're cracking on with that now. When do you reckon it'll be on the road?

  4. Its always been on the road, well MOT'd and insured since 2004. I just struggle to afford to put petrol in it so it can be used. :(

  5. On the radio it said cars are parked for 95 % of their life....

  6. That sounds about right.
My caravelle usually only gets used about 30 minutes a day.

  7. This just arrived in the post this morning.

Hopefully it'll fix the wayward steering and clunk. Just need to work out which washers go where as mine seems to be missing the wavy one and the big metal one.

  8. I've got the necessary tool to wind out the old bushes and run the new ones in, if that's any help?

  9. Thanks for the offer but the old ones came out in about 30 seconds using a socket and a hammer.
The bushes are nearly 2mm thick so I'll probably knock the new ones in as I can't see them being damaged by it. It's what Haynes, Bentley and autobooks manuals all say anyway.

Just need the rain to stop as I'm working outside the garage as it's not big enough to have the van in and work under the front with the doors shut. :(

  10. lol never happy ,I knew the garage would'nt make you happy...:D

  11. I think @Chrisradioman did a complete thread write up on them with the complete order of fitting ;)

Yeah he did somewhere, was a great write up, helped us do it quickly the first time we did our westys!

I wouldn't recommend using a socket on a bush which is made of softer material than said socket, sure fire way of burring it! You need a brass or aluminium knockererr as this will bruise the aluminium opposed to the bush

You can make a tool from the old pin. ;) Grind the head diameter down so there's about 1mm left - enough to fit inside the tube but enough left to catch the bush. chop off so it's just less than 1 bush length, drill tap m8, piece of studding some sockets/washers and a nut. Job done.
You can't hammer them in, that's not what my books say. I would read it again, the top one must protrude a certain amount.

  14. Bentley manual says use a slide hammer to remove and fit new bushes.

  15. This is what the old pin looked like:

It came out with the middle of the bearings stuck to it.
    Check out the wear.

Seems to be the orignal VW stamped pin.

New pin and bearings have reduced the up and down movement from about 5 or 6mm to nothing and the steering wheel movement before the tyres move to about 1/2" at the rim. :)
Just need to grease it now and fit the bottom cap.

My grease gun is empty and i can't remember how to fill it with more grease.

  16. Added some stripes today for a bit of 70's goodness. :)

  17. Thanks. :)

I wanted a really dark blue stripe to go with it but the ebay seller i got them from doesn't have any. :(
Just need to do the rest of the drivers side when the rain stops.

  18. If I did that, I would definitely get them wonky and it would annoy me forever!
