Long term westy resto

  1. Started cutting the rot out of the bottom of the deformation panel.
Ended up with this much gone just to find solid metal. :(

  2. The last bit of my donor deformation panel looks like it'll fill the gap nicely. :)

  3. Hats off to you - great thread

  4. Thanks. Its not really a resto thread, more a keep it out of the scrappy thread.;)

  5. Lol!

  6. Is that the whole deformation panel replaced in total then?

  7. Yep. Both ends replaced a few years back, and now the bottom middle and front. Only the top middle bit is the original bit it came from the factory with.
The donor bit i got was roughly chopped off along the seam or i would have just replaced the lot.

Gonna end up just replacing the whole front with one of these when i find enough cash.

  8. No piccies from today but got a few small patches on the cab step welded up and the patches for the inner front valance cut to size and the paint skimmed off the edges ready to weld in.

  9. Frozen to the core but got some work done under the van today.
Finished the repairs to the bottom of the cab step and front arch and gave it a quick coat of satin black.

  11. Struggling to find solid metal under the front end of the van as everything has been patched multiple times before. :(
The front chassis rails iare rotten to just infront of the steering box mountings. Think it might scrape through the MOT this year but next year is gonna need something serious doing to the front end.

  12. This is a great thread, keeping it on the road and using it rather than ripping it all to bits with a finish date of 2020, then selling it.

  13. Its not getting used as much as it should to be honest.

Got the deformation panel welded up today.
