Historic tax

  1. I was referring to Paras case.
From what you say, DVLA sent you the updated V5 after they had received the old V5 - which of course makes sense. I'm not sure where the quibble is.

  2. Ok I did my little Honda Dax a month ago .
As it was new to me the new V5 in my name was still tax class bicycle. You can only change tax class at a post office with the relevant V whatever form . The post office will send off V5 and you will get a new log book to say historic . Post office will also tax it for free . You shouldn’t have paid . The Gov.uk change vehicle tax class site explains everything and has the V*** form

  3. Aah, in that case then it sounds like the PO changed it to historic for you when he sent the old V5 off, it's definitely not done automatically

  5. IMG_0421.jpeg Well I drove into town today and went to the main post office
The woman at the desk said the post office don’t do that you have to do it online
She said it’s easy just go to tax it tick the mot exemption box and when you come to pay it will show zero cost.

I told her I’d done that and it charged me
The woman next to her said if they have charged you you will get a refund but it won’t be till April

I asked about the v5 and she said they should send a new one out.

    I said I don’t think that’s correct
She said the other way was to fill in these two forms and send them off to the dvla with the logbook

She said the post office can’t do anything with taxation class

I don’t think the forms are the correct ones and I don’t think they knew what they were talking about.

Ones a declaration of exemption from goods vehicle testing and ones a declaration of exemption from mot.

I said I’d already ticked the box for mot exemption when I taxed it and the other form isn’t for my van

She just said it’s done then you’ll just have to wait for the refund and v5

  7. No
They say there is no form for registering a vehicle as historic only the mot exemption one
Ticking the mot exemption box online or filling the mot exemption form in and sending it of with the v5 is what triggers getting it registered as historic apparently.

Sounds like your post Office can join the list of ones that don’t know what they’re talking about!

  13. I’m going to try the local post office later and see if they say any different
If not and Lhu confirms that’s the form he filled in recently to sort his bike then I’ll post it off with the v5 to dvla and see what happens.

I gave my bike one to the woman behind the counter and she just sent it off for me. Another one came back 9 days later with Historic on it. Easy as that. I just told her why I wanted it sent off and she did it. Same as my van.

  15. Don't waste your time. Just post it to the DVLA with a covering letter.

  16. Without filling any forms in or signing anything?
Did they tax it for free at the same time?

The bike, yes. As it is 42 years old now. Thats what I meant. I went there to ‘tax’ it, and mentioned its age, so she just sent the V5 off for me.

  19. Your at least supposed to show the mot certificate or fill out the form for mot exemption so I’ve no idea how she’s done that:thinking:
No wonder this country is in such a state

I can’t believe this thread is still going.
Change the tax class to historic on your V5.
Take it to the post office.
They’ll send it off and you’ll get a shiney new one in the post.
    It really is that easy.
No fart-assing about with incorrect forms that will just confuse things.
No waiting for it to happen automatically; which it won’t.
