I will sell it. That's settled then. I'll put it back together.

Worth mending to keep, but how would you describe if half fixed to sell? I don't think the pain would be worth the possible few quid gained personally, particularly as you always seem so short on spare time and also always in a hurry.

You can buy the engine stand for that. 8 have a spare.

Would be described exactly as it sits. Needs rebuild.

  6. Slap on some new piston rings.. set of used heads off flea bay .. runner then at least? .. or dismantle and sell off bit by bit... prob get more if you don't mind waiting till someone needs that bit...

It is worth shed loads as parts, it would be a better choice.

    Hmm, shed loads is dreaming...

I'd sell the lot, you might get same by selling off some parts, but then be left with a lot of broken bits of no use to anyone.

Shed loads meaning about 500 quid in my mind.
But I would probably sell as a complete engine. Just saying it the parts are worth more.

I see a lot of engines sold without hx's and exhaust, which if in good condition are worth a bit and easy to sell. Might be worth doing that?

My exhaust is pretty mint. The h/X's are a bit gappy on the ends where they meet the manifolds for the exhaust though. The tinware is all present, all of it, the stove pipes are there and good condition. Pair of brand new heater risers at the back too.

To be honest I'm a bit gutted. But I am trying to be positive I guess.

  17. Gasket set, piston rings, pair of S/H heads. Hone the cylinders, fit the rings, clean and rebuild. Thats the cheap and straightward wayo_O

Call me a vulture, but if there's a good big valve head, PM me. :)

  19. Good advice from folks who have been where you are now. I would have thought a damaged engine needing an unknown amount of repairs would only appeal to a few people who are mechanically minded and who have the time.

Like others have said, I can only see repairing the engine would bring you lots of pain and frustration and cost lots of money and you may not be successful.

Its a shame what has happened, but you said you have someone waiting to buy the engine and you are looking to go down the subaru road.

    So do just that.

  20. There you were, all in favour of small valves, and now you want more.
