With a vw engine I am alone here. I have nobody but this forum. And as much as I am greatful for the never ending advice and that I cannot stress enough, it would be good to have a mate who does more common engines to stand next to me and help. Or even just pop over for a chat and a quick bit of advice. I have nobody who can relate to the engine here. All my mates here are in the jap/jdm, Ford, drift and harley scene. So if I went semi modern watercooled, I would be less isolated.
It's good to be different!!! Air cooled is one of the easiest engines to work on . Hang in there it's worth it.
I'm with you there, I even got my Mrs to suggest it I don't have much time for fixing stuff either, so something to fit and forget (so to speak) is very tempting. More time for fun, not frustration. (I'm no mechanic either, happy to try and learn but it's all time time time)
Ok, you might find it useful to look at the youtube clips from busaru and others on the subject of installing subaru engines into the T2. It looks so complicated to me compared with the simplistic air cooled engines. Look up 'vw t2 subaru engine' on youtube to get a feel for what you are in for. Good luck.
That's me too .. took a while but have done the whole van at the same time.. though Mrs Deefer is quite handy on the spanners so she's done a fair bit on the van while I've messed with the engine... Then last September.. now.. And that's just with this forum... I have no idea what I'm doing other forums aren't so friendly or helpful and it's not just engines that give you marmite ... Had a look at the guides today. Definitely not a piece of guide, the ends are intact and no sign of breakage. going to sell the whole thing as a complete engine with h/X's and stock exhaust. Or may list on ebay as 3 separate items , carbs, engine, h/X & exhaust.
Weird.. definitely looked brassey and round with a hole in the middle!.. anyhow good luck with getting the cash for a scooby.. will need to see a how to from you when it goes in Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
