Lots of money though isn't it.

I have someone who wants to buy the engine. And I am pretty much swayed on the idea of going down the subaru road.

  4. depending on the condition of the block, not neccesarily. I rebuilt mine for about £500. That didnt include rebuilding the heads as you will need to though, but did include all new bearings and rings etc.

Is it hard to replace a guide?

Depends on the state of the the head. The guide will have been going up and down with the valve wearing the head for long enough to snap part off the guide. On the face of it, it doesn't look great.

How much is the whole setup worth roughly if I were to sell it?

  8. @Paul Weeding can do guides.

I have one local mate who does old fords. I reckon he could do the guide for me.

  10. Not if you heat the heads up enough first! And put a bit of oil on guides. . and not pick up the head while still hot and drop em though some don't like this method (the heating not the dropping, no one likes that)..worked for me yet to see if it lasts.

  11. It's the only way you're going to fit the new guides... especially when you have to fit oversized guides

In the oven at 250c, seats facing down... so if any seats fall out they'll need replacing too

Where does one get seats and guides from? And what is a seat. . .

    £300?

Really? The tinware cost me that alone. Lol

Sell that separately. @Paul Weeding probably has a better idea. Or stick on eBay and see what it goes for.

A good turn key engine £800-1k, non runner, £300 maybe 400, refurb both heads, new rings new big end bearing, maybe £300 in parts and a day's work

Not worth the bother IMO. And I suspect £300 is looking on the bright side of being able to do all the work yourself and not finding anything else amiss...
