Cameron isn't going to press the exit button (article 50)for the next three months, he's leaving that for his successor who's also unlikely to do it until the next general election. That will be decided upon politicians promises and we all trust them!!
So for now nothing's going to change, were still fully paid up Europeans.
Could be years before we even start the process of leaving which takes another couple of years.
Never mind the Alamo, remember Boaty Mc Boatface.

I've read a few of the non-red top articles on this and listened to Boris after Dave fell on his sword and he was very non-committal about when he would push the button if he were voted in.

Throw in the idea of a general election and it's even more complicated! Whoever is the next Tory leader may call an election while labour are in disarray, securing another 5 years. The button won't be pressed until that's out of the way... Say Autumn 2017. They will pad for a bit and even when they're done with all of that, I think the negotiation under article 50 will end up being an odd blend of what is good for both parties with some form of free movement bartered for trade agreements.

Meanwhile, there is one winner... Boris. This has been his shortcut to no. 10 and it looks like it's working!

  9. From the sounds of it the founding 6 members of the EU (whoever they are) want us to start getting out in the next few weeks.
If the French are one of those 6 which i assume they are then they'll make it as difficult and nasty for us as is possible.

  10. The founding members want us to leave quick before other countries see how it goes and hold there own referendums. They want us out quick so we make mistakes and don't get the good deals etc etc

  15. When it gets to 17 million they might have to do something!

  16. You can't say on here that Labour are in disarray ... you get shot for less.

How can anyone say they will push the button when they are still to be voted in that would be somewhat arrogant. No wonder people are at this stage non committal.

Cameron has said three months to throw as much of a spanner in the works as he can.

That's democratic, we lost and we want to change the rules

  17. quite right - the referendum is only what the people want - it is now up to the government to decide whether to act on that

  18. Apparently there are only maybe 100 to 150 Leave MPs out of 650 in Westminster so an Election is going to be needed. The problem is that there is no set of "how we leave" policies anywhere. You can see that with Farage "I didn't say £350m to the NHS" or the tory leavers "we didn't say immigration would reduce" etc. This is a proper mess. The best description of Boris I have heard is that he is "the dog that actually caught up with the car"

how will an election change anything? why unless the Government thought that a win againt the opposition without doubt would they call an election?
