Bitsy's resto

  1. A speculative question! I am just about to try sort out the brakes and the stuff I need for the bus, does anybody have a photo of the set up underneath for a bus with servo fitted e.g. what the pipe layout, servo positioning and how it all connects to the pedals?

Its kinda stumping me how the pedal connects to the servo unit as all I had was a pedal!!!

from the bottom of a pedal, you'll see a flat end with a pin hole going through it (5 or 6mm diameter) which connect to a rod with a fork end one end whilst the other screws into the servo which has a threaded bit (cab end of the servo) - the rod connects into here
Ive looked for photos but cant find any, sorry :(

  3. thanks, makes more sense now!

This is the latest pic of the van, been a little slow over the summer with one thing and another but, at least have the worst bit is done which is the rear roof. All bad cut out and new tin welded in and leaded, now looking fantastic. Just got side door to sort on bottom half, rear seat belt mounts to put in, heater pipe to put in and front passenger seat mounts and the front bumper step to patch up, then its ready for prep and paint. Hoping to have back in my garage for christmas and then refit everything else.

  10. The photo's below are the latest installment of Bitsy, all welding done, just flattening and tidying up and media blast the inside then its paint, decided to stone chip with light grey stone chip inside below window level as its all going to be covered and waxoyled anyway. What are peoples thoughts on that? Any ideas for the seat backs as cannot find the trim for them anywhere, it comes up few and far between, I know I can board the backs but, what about the tops?

  11. Looking to purchase some vinyl interior trim panels and front seat covers for my van, all matching can anybody recommend some where that does them preferably as a full kit?

  12. Theres no point waxoyling over the top of stonechip

  13. Should I not bother stonechipping then just paint and waxoyl? Whatwould you do bearing in mind its bare metelled inside the van.

  14. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Paint it normally and waxoyl the cavities? That's what everyone else does... Stone chip is for the underside.

  16. Just starting the resto of my gearbox, have clened it up but I want to paint/coat it with something as it still doesn't look that great. I used tank tone on my fuel tank which looks good but, what would be suitable for the gearbox?

  19. Best of british to you

If you take your time and a methodical approach im sure you will end up with somthing your proud of
Dont forget to take pictures so you can look back on your effort and be proud of what you have done

That gearbox took me a fair bit of time and effort to get like that but most of my work gets done in spare time around my normal commitments

Im always happy to advise other people on how to get the finish i get
However i do understand some people dont have the time but do have funds
In that case im available to do the work for them

I would love someone to commision me to mirror polish a gearbox

  20. Hi Guys, thought I would upload a few of the bits I have been working on over the summer:

The tailgate done in finished colours although the painter decided to do the colours upside down as a practice (he was gutted) but, promised to put it right.

The next is a pair of engine hangers i had powder coated:

The next two are the fuel tank i have refurbed inside and out:

The next is the gearbox also refurbed and tidied up, it was in a real bad state:

all in all a few bits done in the process of re covering the newly powder coated seat frames and hopefully finishing the engine off if I manage to get an inlet manifold for a progressive carb off vanorak.
