Bitsy's resto

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by yorkieman, Nov 23, 2012.

  1. Hi Guys, here's the start of my camper resto.

It started bright yellow, with loads of stuff missing, I stripped it down completely and had it dipped to see the extent of the problems, as always had more wrong than you could see (lots of filler). It will go to a welder and painter (I am definitely not one) before I rebuild it with mostly new (to the van) parts.

  2. well it looks like a good one.
when i had mine dipped it came back looking like a scrapper..... loads of welding

    yours looks out standing.

i must say i too have that roll over jig and its been fantastic - but it could do with wheels on ., i think the chap does that option.

Any how best of luck and i will be intrested as to the cost of the re spray - i got quoted £6-7-8-k
    so will be doing myself.
looks like you are at the same stage as me..

    regards

  3. Yes, Marc it doesn't look too bad from a distance but, needs:

all sills, RH cargo floor, outriggers and jacking points, rear quarters redoing, door hinge panel, LH seat tub, front panel, work behind the front panel, both rear wheel arches, b-pillars, rear side window bottoms need doing, rear roof above door has corroded through across the whole back, top of chassis rails in engine compartment holed, inside rear skin above engine is corroded and holed, theres a big hollow in the roof where a kind passer by decided to jump on it when I wasn't in.

    think thats it!!!!

  4. Not bad then!

so, i'm confused, i can see it's had a new front panel and has been converted to low lights.... but it's got early rear lights and late/crossover vents...... what is it? what age is it supposed to be?

keep the pics coming dude - looks like you have got a great project on your hands! Youve done the right thing getting the shell dipped - looking back I wish we'd have gone down that route & done the dipping, life would have been much clearer & we'd have seen all the well hidden botches!

  17. Question? I am having to repair/redo the B pill separatelyars, as you can see one side is completely missing the bottom half. Just wondered what each new section is like, can I buy a whole pillar or do i need an inner and an outer, you cannot really see what they look like from the small pictures of the websites when buying.

  18. you want an inner and outer...

  19. Hi Guys, does anybody have a complete list of tinware needed for a 1600 twinport with heat exchangers. Most of mine is missing and I would like to source some more to but, don't really know exactly what I need

Borrowed these from Megabugs site, there seems to be a few variants of tinwear about, but the commonly needed, difficult to find and therefore expensive look like these 2 main bits,

I think the ones on this detailed sheet are more for the prototype or beetle, *anyone else know?

    Hope that helps.
