Barry's engine bay resto

  1. Poor Stuart - everyone wants his jazz hands in their rear hatch.

  2. while she was out thought you would have at least given it a top end going over ! or at the minimum refit the thermostat and flaps as it aids engine longevity... chrome don`t get you home it whats inside that counts

You're right - as long as the oilcooler side flap is in place you have the important bit sorted.

Vinnyboy they do seem to work in a haphazard way. When closed the left one is up and sort of touching the top of the engine tin and the right one is down touching the engine fan shroud. That's the best way l can describe it. When they open the left one goes down and covers the oil cooler and the right one open upwards and touches the engine tin. Wished I took pictures of the Wiseman wagons now in its various positions :(

And small paint tin tops of Dulux are good. Fitted one to Mike4's hot air riser. Fitted into the rubber and looks perfect.

Not managed to do much this week. With no engine in the bus it makes rolling it around the workshop a chore for a few hours work so l carried on with the firewall. Annoyingly the Rustrolium paint reacts with panel wipe the moment l started to wipe down the panel following contamination from something on Sunday. So l was forced to wire brush the whole lot and start again. This time l took a chance and didn't wipe the panel first. Luckily it worked and the paint went on well. So glossy grey firewall for Barry.

  12. Can't wait to see this finished. It's giving me engine envy but is also motivating me to get Wilma's womanly bits seen to in her resto this January....mmmm probably add loads to the resto cost though

Tonight the weekends fun started and then stopped and then started again. Pulling wires through the engine lid it came crashing down on the bridge of my nose!!! Stupid design.

Ready for engine bay clean up.

    It's not to bad.

Battery tray isn't so good. It's liveable but do I replace it now and the outer rear quarter that has pin holes rusted though??

Some wiring issues from the past. A slight singe and scorch here and there will need tidying.

Strap for engine lid. No more nose cracking :)

Take a pic of the clip on the end of your engine lid support.;)

"front fog reversing light"? What the F is that Birdy?
I think you've lost the clip the holds the ends together, or more likely it's slipped to the wrong place or been replaced with some bent coat-hanger. How's your conk?

My conk still hurts but I'll solider on :)

Had a look at the lid stay. It's all still there but how can you make it tighter??

This is the front fog reverse light. Got fed up not knowing where I was going backwards.

  19. I fixed my lid stay with a cable tie, one of the bigger ones about 8mm across. You can adjust the tightness on it too so you can get the tension right.

  20. so impressed - after spending the morning with my head in my engine my knees are dead and i cannot walk.

i need to find a garage i can use for a ramp etc ...
