Was about to ask if there was a fourth…spun the engine several times and couldn’t see one. All safely removed. Running out of reasons not to remove engine.
Exhaust and heat exchangers off? Might as well remove the carbs and manifolds if the heads are coming off.
Exhaust and heat exchangers off, alternator and starter off carbs off,(manifolds still in place.) Oil filler completely removed for a bit more space.
If when you get the heads off you decide you need to take it a bit further, I've got an unused set of Mahle pistons and cylinders waiting.
I've also got various sets of shims. Let me know what size you think you'll need and I'll have a look.
Well, the engine is out, tins off….. got called in for tea ….. will remove cylinder head and post photos for discussion in the morning….. …was considering the bigger barrels and pistons, but might get away with rings …. but who knows.
Cylinder head off…. valve still where it should be…. it’s strange that the spring can be turned freely…. no obvious signs of breakage… think perhaps next step is to clean everything up and remove valve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All valve stems at same height…. can’t see any break in the spring, but it’s caked in carbon…. so I’m sure it will be.
Or maybe just a duff spring that's lost, or never had enough springyness? A good result if your problem could be sorted by simply replacing a spring.
The suspect valve does seem a little shorter….. the spring certainly is. Valve seat looks ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Loads of play in the guide….would need a whole roll of ptfe tape to make it snug. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Could have been much worse if the collets had jumped out. All in all a good result, disaster nipped in the bud and the head looks like it would go again with new valves and guides.
Thats a lot of wear on the top of that valve where the collets go. If you need another sping I have a spare or 2
