Bit more progress today between helping other members and fitting CV joint to the camper, Finished the floor patch Moved onto the seat mount, seat belt and previous poor patch, Had to redo that bit, Quick paint to stop rust for now
It's been. A while, can't get to the workshop easily today cos of the snow so thought I'd get in the big tent and get some enthusiasm back , big tidy up to start, Bloody cold out here
There is quite a few holes in mostly concentrated in the front right quarter which I'll cut out but the rest is just pin holes that I'm welding up as I find them. I'm sure lots of people would say cut the lot off and new beds but I want to keep as much og metal as poss throughout. I'm hPpy for it to look used when it's done!
Welding up pin holes! Great fun Looks awful but my grinder is at the workshop, typical nothing's ever where you need it, that's about the worst of it though
Great progress dude. If I wasn't under Dr's orders I would be out there on mine now. You are inspiring me.
Had a couple of hours this afternoon to weld some more holes on the load bed, my technique is to push hard with a welding rod in any rust dimples, if it goes through it gets welded easier as it gets darker with an arc light underneath to see any holes,. I've done the worst, 5 holes left in the rear half Quick tidy up and some paint on the bare metal.
Is it easier filling those small holes with gas and a rod than a mig? Looking at that i think id be forever chasing holes with the mig
Yes, you can weld rust with gas on a low flame it's more controlable, I know it's not ideal but it'll last me a few more years before I eventually have to replace the whole bed, remind me what's that paint you used on your cab floor, might be just the thing for it?
http://www.protectakote.co.uk/protecta-kote-anti-slip-coating.html I love the stuff Im tempted to do my door cards in the light grey version I also did the rear load area in it
About as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Let me down like a cheap pair of tights. I will look on eBay.
Different colours too.£22 a litre. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Protectin...ial_Paint_Varnish_MJ&var=&hash=item4ade25aa90
You missed out chocolate fire guard You need a funky roller full of holes to apply it and a can of xylene to degrease before hand aswell as some green scotch to key the surface
