I do... Might be useless though as found it in dads garage when clearing it out. Your only 2 days away. Where about a are you at the moment?
At a place called Loreal, just off the A7/E15 but hoping to be gone b4 u pass by. No offence intended!
My coil seemed to be running really hot after a long hot run, thought it might be breaking down. Found a French spares store and bought a new one - that ran hot too! Both actually worked fine. I guess the roadside check is when it's in its won't-run mode whip the the central HT lead off the dizzy and hold it a few mm from a good earth on the engine block (using rubber gloves or insulated grips, and keeping well away from the sparky end) and look for a nice strong spark when cranking.
True on the 1st but can't resist the 2nd One day I plan to drive all around Europe in Cyril, this is just my warm up!
Another good tip - this one originally from @paradox I think, is to give the carb a tap with the handle of a rubber mallet or screwdriver incase the float valve has got stuck closed. Loreal, because you're worth it... Poor Sean - with only us muppets and the ghosts for company this evening. Have you any of the local plonk to soften the blow?
Sorry Your having issues chap. Sounds like a fuel delivery or ignition component issue. If its points and coil and it mullered the cap and rotor then it could be condenser. I had a similar issue with intermittent running on 3 when over in france many years ago. Managed to get a full ignition set up sent out and changed the lot, dissy, coil, leads and plugs. Solved the problem and for what it cost i binned the old stuff. Never got to the bottom of what it actually was and didnt care once it was sorted.
Thanks @Dicky I have electronic ignition so no points but 'Your' & others' point is taken and I will probably just get the coil & fuel filter changed anyway while I am in the garage this morning. About time to get back to the holiday! LOL
After it stops and fails to restart I would put a cap a petrol straight in the top of the carb ,then start it ,if it does start it is a petrol delivery problem ,if it fails it is electrical..
I will get a back up can and try that. Currently sitting in garage reception awaiting 'diagnostics' although haven't much faith. Will ask them for a price and times to change the fuel filter and coil, can't imagine that it should cost that much would it?
put some points and a condenser on it too. Elec ignition could be wobbly and for the price of the points and condenser its worth it (being in Loreal and all that)
Starter motor is part number is 091-911-023/X - is this a new problem? The coil p/n is 043-905-115/C but there is nothing special about it virtually any coil will do. Try Barn Shop if you need parts in a hurry, they’re not too far from you, Les Châssis, 26600 La Roche-de-Glun.
