Wee bit wet in Cumbria at the moment.

  1. Reported as being worse floods than 2009. Carlisle blocked off as water overlooked the flood defences by 1m+. Couple of bridges near Keswick gone, main bridge in Carlisle structurally damaged and rest of area under 1m or so of water. Wind has dropped though and leccy still on. Gonna take dogs out and see how much water is in Maryport. The said last one was a once in a 1000 year flood. That was 6 years back.

  2. Those new flood defenses weren't quite up to it then.

  3. Without building a huge 10ft wall alongside the river theres not a lot that could have stopped it.
    Carlisle looks like this now:

The main A591 road through the lakes from Keswick to Windermere is gone as the river has took big chunks of it away.

Had a drive around Maryport this morning and theres not even a big puddle to be seen. Carlisle is 27 miles away and Cockermouth only 7 but we got off lightly.

God only knows how long its going to take them to sort this one out for all those being affected, and lets hope winter doesnt get colder for all their sakes . Its mind blowing , the hurricane was bad but all that water :(
