wear a mask .

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by jivedubbin, Jul 15, 2020.

  1. Today I heard from another customer, she told me that her husband died at the weekend,I've known him for 13 years as a customer and friend ,such a nice guy always had the kettle on when I turned up.Always full of stories and tales.
    Covid 19 got him.
As far as I know that makes 3 customers that have been struck down with covid 19 .maybe mask wearing could have prevented this happening.

  2. It's a bit late to say this (and I'm sorry about your friend) but I've been saying for a long time they (the gubmint) should have mandated masks all the way back in March. Some countries in Europe did this and now have no lockdown, free movement, all shops have been open for weeks, hardly any cases at all. I swear, we are stupid in this country led by the stupider

It must be worse up where you are, I dont know anyone who has had it, or know anybody who knows anybody who has had it, I suppose it would be a different story if you could catch it from sheep. Joy of living in the middle of nowhere I suppose

I dont think you compare this country with the rest of Europe, all you have to do is travel across them, our population is much denser here , I live in the least populated county in England and its still a higher population than a lot of Europe, hardly any cases here at all.All the outbreaks here and in the surrounding rural counties have been in immigrant workers communaties in meat prosessing plants and fruit picking. Sad thing is all the locals who put themselves up for picking were refused, All sorted by the usual organisers it would seem.

I've got to go to Holland next week. Really don't want to fly yet, but I've got no choice.
    Mask I up landlord.

  6. Couldn't agree more , we weren't in "lockdown" we were asked to stay indoors . Lockdown abroad meant just that - allowed out ONLY for food / essentials with police and army roadblocks enforcing the lockdown. A mask had to be worn at all times outside the house , even whilst driving .
Weak leadership and double standards from Downing st didn't help and when the history is written for 2020 and beyond I don't think Boris and his cronies will be remembered in a good light . In a way i'm glad other countries have coped better than England , it proves with correct and enforceable measures what could be achieved.

Nobody stopped anyone from wearing a mask, everyone has a choice. Scientist (sage) that have led this have now said we think it’s better to wear a mask, at the beginning of ‘lockdown’ they thought otherwise. The gov’t followed their advice. Nobody knows what’s best as this is a new virus. What is for certain is that people will complain no matter what and there are never any winners.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend(s).

I'll be honest and say I am against wearing a mask as I'm registered asthmatic however, its not about "me" not wearing one, its about the people surrounding me too. I don't know if I'm a carrier or not, so what happens if I pass it on to an elderly lady who has been careful these past few months and she comes down with covid, I would never forgive myself.

So, with that said maybe it isn't that bad to wear one and do my bit for society in limiting the spread.

I can be responsible when the time is right and now is one of those times!

Agree, I’d rather not wear one either, just not go to the shops I suppose.

We've tried to limit it to one of us going to the shops until this past week and have relaxed it a little. However, we have done our best to do it right.

Personally, Ive been click and collecting where possible and that works.

  13. Agree. And even now its main purpose is to make people feel safer to go out and spend money, especially now that "1 metre +" has been introduced. Its about public perception, not any meaningful reduction in risk of contracting the virus.

I would be getting an I have medical reasons not to wear a mask T shirt to avoid stick when out if I were you

  15. Yep. And the distances are purely arbitrary - you’ve got to say something.

I don't follow you on that answer.

I'd rather not wear one but in doing my bit for society, I would and be responsible in doing so.

  17. I agree to a certain extent but the government are cherry picking the SAGE recommendations , social distancing for example .
Nothing has changed but the government has decided 2 meters isn't workable indoors so it's been amended to 1m+ despite SAGE saying 2m is 75% safer ....
As for a mask , despite being asthmatic I'm wearing one for shopping but haven't been on public transport yet , in fact I walked 4 1/2 miles this morning rather than get a bus home !!
A mask indoors is sensible and should have been compulsory from day 1 - they didn't go down that route because of idiots panic buying and the NHS needed every one they could get their hands on .

I’ve been wearing one in shops, since it all kicked off. It’s simple science, based on your can see your breath hanging in the air when it’s cold weather. Must still be there in the warm weather, too. 2m distancing? Pah! Walking 2m behind someone in a busy shop, your breathing in their stale air!

Most of the rest of the world didn't have 2m social distancing though, yet apparently they've done things right and we didn't?

1m+ is what the WHO recommend. 2m+ is safer, but then so is 3m+, 4m+ where do you draw the line.
