I vote yes, nothing to do with the extra beds or anything, I love a tin top. The major bonus for me is just having one of the cots as a storage rack when the top is up.
Don't do it, if you cut the roof it won't be cool anymore.......... Dons his tin hat Like mentioned before get a puck or a teardrop you'll have loads of room and your bus will remain beautiful like lord VW intended
Neither - you need a permanent high-top. More room on the move and more when you're camping + you can sell ice cream.
Hi. I am not sure if this thread is still going but I thought I will reply anyway. I am Pete and I run Space roofs. We fit roofs to splits, bays, t25s, Brazilians, etc. We offer two roofs for the bays: a straight lift that gives you a 43.5" x 6 ft bed or a Westy style that gives you the same size bed. We have been fitting roofs to VWs for over fifteen years now and have fitted well over two hundred roofs. See our website www.spaceroofs.co.uk or give me a ring on 07970868059. What I find interesting in this thread is that people seem to forget that Devon, Dormobile, Viking, Danbury where all aftermarket fitters that cut holes in tin tops. So as long as the job is done well, the correct strengthening framework is installed and the roof is well made you are following a great tradition in the Volkswagen world. I say a van is to be used and if that means fitting a roof, go for it. The amount of people who have rediscovered using their vans on a regular basis after a roof is fitted is fantastic, and means that the vans will be around for a lot longer. Pete
Without wishing to devalue the attachment and memories you associate with the van, if you intend to hold on to it for the foreseeable future, I'd say sod sentimentality, and do whatever necessary to further your enjoyment of it. With either a poptop or hi top fittted (of any flavour) it's still the same van, with different potential. You'll be just as attached to it. For looks, I prefer Dormi, for practicality rear hinged Westie, for maximum head room and ease of use Devon...
